Um, if she isn't yet 2, it may be that it is too early to potty train. I know my girls gave me the "cues" but they really weren't ready til they 2 1/2...which is exactly when the pediatrician TOLD me they'd be ready...

If you want her to sit on the potty, I will admit I bribed the crap out of my kids. I filled their sippy cups with soda, put the potty chair in front of the TV, and let them drink soda and watch Caillou all day...lol but it worked....

As for nighttime routine, we've always had our kids on a nighttime routine...My suggestion is to just "do it," and stay consistent. Definitely do an early bedtime (our kids go down at 7:30), and I'd just make sure everyone in the house is on board. It will probably take a few nights, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. There was a book floating around on my "raising multiples" board. I never used it, (my kids were super easy in that regard) and I don't know if addresses older children, but the moms who have used it swear by it..."12 hours sleep by 12 weeks old" by Suzy Giordano

I would be more interested in getting a night-time routine set before potty training. Your plan sounds good but if I were you I'd start the routine earlier. That's just me though.

Thanks so much for your reply. You had really good ideas. I should have made a bigger deal about the "big girl panties" because she will wear them and doesn't think they are anything special. I didn't really think to set a timer but I'm definately going to do that now. She LOVES m&m's too, so I'll have to try that. I can't believe you threw out the diapers!

She rarely wakes to pee at night-she's just able to hold it all night. We don't let her drink after dinner, except for a couple swallows after she brushes her teeth. I"ve heard that night time training is completely based on a hormone that they produce....basically the brain tells the kidneys to slow down urine production at night. SO...don't get too excited about night training-it just comes on it's own.

The other posters gave you great advice. I would add that you might find some regression when you have the baby. My son was such an easy toddler until I had a baby. Now he is making our lives miserable. So the sooner you get things sorted out - the better.

Good luck :-)

I have a follow-up, but a question:

Do you think it's easier to potty train on a toilet potty seat or a potty chair?

I think it depends on the kids. My kids were really scared of the big potty even with the smaller chair on it. Plus, having TWO potty training at the same time, it made it easier for them to each have their special chair..they like to do things together. My brother wouldn't go on the potty chair, but he would on the big toilet.

Definately think it's too early for the potty, especially if you're having to push it - that will probably have the opposite effect that you want. Hey, I have 2 yo twins and an 8 1/2 mo. old which means THREE in diapers...know it's not optimal but it's doable.

I would definately focus on the nightime routine and just keep praising her for any steps she take toward the potty on her own and any cues she gives you.
