No matter how hard I try, I can't get my 2 year old son to do anything I ask without a war breaking out in the house. He loses his temper so bad he ends up throwing and breaking stuff. He just broke the remote this afternoon because I can't figure out what he wanted to eat. He has never been this bad with his temper until the past few weeks. Is there anything that will get him to listen. Timeouts don't work and my tone of voice doesn't work. He just does whatever he wants to anyhow.

Hi!

I can relate to your problem... I went through it with my older boy from the time he was 2 until he was 4. We tried everything, from time outs, positive re-enforcement, daycare, etc. I can honestly say... nothing worked! It was like living with a hurricane, he was either hyper-happy, or extremely mad and breaking things. He really only got better by growing out of it. The 2 things that helped the most were simply ignoring most of the bad behavior, except distructive or aggresiveness, and putting him in daycare for a few days a week.

The program 1,2,3, magic also helped a bit. Are you familiar with that program?

To give you some positive thoughts, my son did grow out of his anger and is the sweetest kid in the world now.

Now, if I can find some advice on what do about this co-ed sleepover he has been invited for! Enjoy him as a 2 year old because he will be a pre-teen before you know it!

LOL! Katherine

no advice but lots of support! my ds is 2.5 yrs and we're in the throes of terrible two-hood. ds has always had a temper but it's gotten a lot worse as he's entered toddlerhood, probably because he's very good at expressing himself now! he doesn't break things but in the middle of a tantrum, he'll look around and say "i want to break .... the tv, the chair, etc." it's very interesting, lol! i've ordered a book "raising your spirited child" which i hope may give me ideas. (i don't know exactly what a "spirited child" is but i'm desperate for help)

sorry, i know i didn't help. but hang in there and welcome to a great board!
