Landon is almost 3 and it is WAY past time to get him in a toddler bed.

Spin it positive and don't let him see your fear :) get really excited about it and make it a privelage ... maybe allow him to pick out a new pillow or bedding. Stick with the same bedtime routine as before and treat it as no big deal when the big night comes. If he resists give him a flashlight to play with as long as he is in bed. Good luck!

Don't let him see your fear----- totally made me laugh! But, it is so true. You are right that I need to spin it in a positive way and make it just no big deal at all. I love your idea about giving him a flashlight if he stays in bed. Great tip- thanks!

I totally agree with having him choose his own sheets for this new bed.

We do the transition really young, so this might not help for a 3 yo. But we make the transition quickly. We don't leave the crib up, or switch for just naps, or anything like that. At the first nap/bedtime in the new bed, we act like nothing is different and we put the kid in bed. We close his door and childproof the room and kind of just let him do whatever he is going to do.

The flashlight recently replaced his pacifier .... he loves that flashlight so much that he wants to hurry up and have bedtime. I hope it lasts long enough for him to forget about paci :)

Well, I can certainly handle some shopping. :) Great idea for the new sheets. He needs some new ones anyway. This will just give us a great motive for getting them.

Thanks so much for your feedback. Have you ever had trouble with him opening the door? That was the biggest issue we had with my older DS. He'd open the door and leave so often that I would have to sit by the door. It was so frustrating!
