TV in 3 year olds bedroom?

DD(3 years old) doesn't have a tv in her room and we have no plans for one in the near future. I found out at her dancing class most kids have their own tv.
Am I out of the loop?
No way! While I don't completely restrict my kids from watching TV (it's a really good babysitter LOL), I don't let them have access to it whenever they want. And also, IMO (and my pedi's) a bedroom is for sleeping in-not watching TV or playing. A bedroom should be a place of relaxation-TV/toys stimulate kids and actually keep them awake longer. GL
I think having a TV in a 3 year olds room is really bizarre.
Why would they need a TV, how many hours of TV are they watching? I don't even have a TV in my room!
I feel having a tv in a 3 yr olds bedroom is absolutely ridiiculous and sets them up for sleep issues. TV is a stimulant!! Why would you want to give your child a stimulant in their bedroom? Some parents will argue that it lulls their child to sleep, it doesn't lull a child to sleep the child is probably so sleep deprived that they will fall asleep in spite of being visually and auditorally stimulated.
Same is true for tvs in adults bedroom. We have a tv in our bedroom. Our dd watches tv in the morning in there while I shower. So I'm not complately anti-tv. However, we never have the tv on when we are trying to go sleep. Show me someone who falls asleep to the tv, I'll show you a sleep deprived person, regardless of their age.
I've always limited my child's TV watching... so I could not imagine putting a TV in his room! Though... I have heard of people putting a tv/dvd player combo in - without cable - for movie viewing only... which seems like a good idea - because it would still be fully controlled - but I would still wait until they were old enough to have friends over and use it for that purpose. If Logan watches a movie at his age, I'd like to be with him as a family activity. When he's 7 - and has 3 friends over.. I'd rather have them watching a DVD in another room ;)
I totally agree with all other PPs. IMO, TV in 3yr old is absolutely not necessary. DH and I are tv lovers. But I really feel a 3 year old can do much more fun quiet time activities rather than watching tv. If you totally feel that your DD will enjoy, you can get a portable DVD player and let her watch one cartoon a week or so in her bedroom..Thats what we do and I strictly restrict that time to 30mts.
Thanks to everyone at least I am not alone. DD watches DVD's and TV but not on her own and not to fall asleep to. Apparently a lot of these kids watch DVD or TV as they fall asleep. I think it just sets up bad sleep habits.
