My 3 year old walks everywhere. I got tired of lugging around a stroller everywhere. I thought about buying an umbrella stroller instead of the huge monster I was pushing around, but decided her legs are strong enough, she can WALK!

I would prefer that she walk when we go out.

If I just have one of hte kids, we go ahead and have them walk. But if we have both (2 & 4 year old), we take the stroller and they kid of trade off. Its just too hard for me alone, or even sometimes for both DH and I or ODD and I to keep track of both of them when we are shopping or in places with larger crowds. On the other hand, DH makes them walk almost everywhere, partly to tire them out faster (LOL!) and when they are with him, they won't walk or run away from him, they know better... I think honestly its both a combination of activity and nutrition with kids. As long as they are active in general, and they aren't eating a ton of sugary and processed foods all the time, that's going to be a better combination for life in general as they get older.

I don't pack the stroller too often these days. If I know we are going to a place where Landon would just get run over by people, I'll put it in. For the most part though, he wants to walk so it is just easier to leave the stroller at home (instead of chasing him with a stroller in tow!).

I would agree with you about distances. Landon and I go on walks often but anything more than about a mile is just way too much for him. He gets tired and cranky and that is no fun for anyone!
