When to give up naps?

DD is 33 months old. DH feels its time to give up the afternoon nap. We tried this DD falls asleep around 4pm naps and hour then doesn't sleep at night.
I still put her down to "rest" at 12:30 and get her up at 1:30pm. I think she still needs rest. HEr bedtime is 8pm.
I was thinking of giving up the nap and changing her bedtime to 7:30 till she gets use to not napping.
Any advice?

My DD Aparna still takes 2hrs nap in the afternoon and she is 39months old. Part of it is because she still sucks her thumb, so 5mts of thumb sucking leads her to sleep for next 2hrs..But I agree that because of her nap she sleeps only by 10pm, but I send her to bed around 9.15 or so.

From next week she will be going to a montessori school where only 1-1.5hrs nap is permitted and that too early ones. So what I plan to do is to wake her up early(we get up by 6AM) so she will take her nap between 12-1 or so (at her school lunch is from 11.30-12). Atleast she will sleep early..

Personally I think nap is very good for kids until 3.5 or even 4. 1 to 1.5hrs is essential for their growth too..I read this somewhere, so just sharing my mind..I think your DD is still young to leave naps, but if she is ready on her own its fine...If not allow her to get some quiet time or cat napping..

For over a year now, my 38 month old just has one nap. She gets up between 6 and 7:30 (depending on if she hears her dad getting ready for work, lol). I don't wake her. She'll go have a nap right after lunch and sleeps as long as she sleeps. Sometimes from 12:30-4:30, but more likely 1-3:30... then she goes to bed between 7 and 8, depending on her day. It's just what she does. I can't imagine her having two naps, but my 14 month old does! She always has one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I guess she'll give that up by the time she's 2.

All kiddos are different though, that's just what we do...

Logan has been taking one nap since he moved into the preschool room at daycare. I actually like it much better than the two naps. He naps from 12-3 at home on weekends and 12-2 at daycare. I definitely recommend switching to one nap if you haven't.. and making it far earlier. Or, go without one. I suspect Logan could make it without a nap, and might actually fall asleep around 7-7:30pm (we do stories at 7, lights out by 7:30) if he didn't take a nap.. but since they do it at daycare still, we will too.
