Alternatives to Coffee/Caffeine

So after cutting it down over a week, I have given up my pot of coffee everyday. My DH doesn't drink it so I usually finish off the whole pot. I bought some caffeine free soda like 7up and Squirt. But I really miss my Java!!!! What are you drinking in the morning?

Hi Shantel,

After being soooo addicted to my starbucks (brewed at home) and then the diet coke/diet dr pepper ALL day, I went cold turky at Xmas time when we decided to TTC. I just deal with it! I drink sprite or rootbeer if I need to have a soda to break up the monotony...I just drink lots of water, OJ ( Tropican Healthy Kids as it has more vitamins) and milk. I have had a decaf once or twice just to have the "feeling" of drinking coffee, but for the most part I just deal with it! I am not a morning person so it bites, but its well worth it!

I totally agree that it is worth it and I also brew my starbucks at home. I got pretty bad stomach acid with my first and had a hard time with juice.

Anyone know about herbal teas? Are they good for you?

I know it's NOT coffee, but if you're just looking for the energy boost - apple juice. It actually gives you more of a boost than coffee! Doesn't taste as good, but hey... what can you do? :)

I think orange juice is good for energy.

I would avoid herbal teas at all costs if you are pregnant.

OJ is too acidic for me. With my first son I was very sick during the first trimester and my stomach was very acidic, even when I didn't drink OJ. I've also read a lot of women switched to lemonade and I fear the same acidic problem as with the OJ.

What is bad with herbal teas?

Apple juice is definitely something I could drink. When I was carrying Darrian, my 7 year old son, I drank a lot of apple juice.

I cut out the caffeine 3 years ago and it was one of the best things i ever did. No more 3pm sinking spells ! In the am I have caffeine free herbal tea OR a can of low sodium V-* juice. Only 70 calories and worth 2 servings of veggies...plus it's thicker and I can take my vitamins w/ it and not get an upset stomach. I drink a lot of water and add the Propel packets that are vitamin enhanced and clear. Something about all the color additives in the other ppackets like Crystal light or the Wal-mart brand make me wary.

Another of my favorite things is to boil lemons in a pot of water and just sip on that all day long on a cold day !

I would love to have the herbal teas, but I read all over the web not to drink them when you are prego. I just bought 2 boxes of it too. The water packets might be good , but what do we know about the artificial sugar stuff, saccharine? I thought that stuff was pretty bad for you. The lemon water sounds the best.

Man this is so hard. Not too mention I am a picky eater/drinker. I don't remember things being as difficult with my first.

My SD's Ob told her not to drink anything with any artificial sweeteners - Crystal Light, etc. - but said that Kool-aid, Gatorade, Propel, etc.
