DI & Single?

I read through some posts, but really couldn't find anyone who was doing donor insemination as a single woman. I saw a lot of information about donor eggs, but that really doesn't fit with my situation at all.

Are there any DI folks out there who have decided to be Moms on their own? Maybe because I live in Nebraska, I don't know anyone else who is doing this, and it would be nice to meet some other folks who are.

Some background, I am on my second attempt. I need to test to see if I am pregnant on Sunday. I feel tired, but that seems to be due to the hormonal support. It is hard to say. In some ways I think it is a little cruel, that the hormones mimic "feeling" pregnant, but I have to resist the temptation to interpret those feelings as anything but the result of the hormones.

I am trying to be optimistic and at the same time, realistic. The doctor thought it would take about 2 or 3 attempts before we were successful. I figure I only need to worry after the third time.

Hoping to meet other women in the same situation if you are out there on the board somewhere...

Hi there,

Although I haven't started trying yet, I too am single and interested in DI. I plan to start trying next year, but I'm actually trying to lose some weight before I get pregnant...If that makes any sense.

It is so cool to meet other women who are doing this amazing life changing procedure on their own.....especially when you say that it was the best decision you ever made.

I'm 35 and I've been thinking about having a child on my own for about 5 years now. I'm finally at the stage where I'm ready to TTC but I need to lose some weight

Welcome to the Board.

Below is a link to a post I put up regarding my decision to become a Choice Mom.

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppdonor/?msg=14837.1

An update to that post is I conceived my DD in May 2006 and gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl in January. She's the light of my life and I couldn't remember a time without her. I couldn't imagine my life being any different.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Hi,

I have done DI as a single woman, and to quote someone else in this thread, it was the best decision I have ever made. My daughter Deanna was born last January (just missed being the New Year baby). By the way, I don't know anyone else who has done this as a single woman IRL either, and I am in Massachusetts, so I don't think it's a regional thing. It took me 5 cycles to become pregnant; however, I was doing at-home inseminations. I am planning to try for a second one soon, but would like to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight first.

Good luck, and hope it works out for you!

Hi,
I am considering becoming a single mother by choice in New Hampshire and am curious which sperm bank you used in Massachusetts and how you managed at home. I have been thinking about this for a while, but I have gotten more serious about it as I creep towards 40. I'd appreciate any advice or opinions.

Hi Colleen!

I am so happy to talk to someone else who is doing this. I am also a single woman. I am not sure if or when I will ever get married, but I have wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember. I recently decided to stop waiting for a man and become a single mother by choice. I am now doing my homework about adoption, foster to adopt programs and DI. I would love to stay in touch with you as we go through this process. I have a million questions right now about how to
