Donor Criteria

I hope this is not an inappropriate question to ask. What is the criteria most people look for/most agencies screen for? I would like to donate eggs, but am not sure if I am a good candidate. On one hand, I know I have the right motivation for it, would be under no delusions or qualms regarding a child that has some of my genes, but is not mine, and if my kids are any indication, I have good genes. On the other hand, I am in my early 30s and have had postpartum hypothyroidism.

Any feedback? My husband and I have been talking about this a lot lately because of some recent experiences of people we know, but I do not even know if it is a possibility.

My clinic accepts donors up to age 35. I don't know about the hypothyroidism issue. You'd probably have to disclose it as part of your medical history, but I don't think it would be the kiss of death. Why not call your local fertility clinic and inquire?

Thank you. The ones I have found around here seem to be up to 29, up to 30, and one up to 32. My husband is supportive of the general idea of egg donation, but a little uneasy with the idea of completely anonymous donation in our geographic area b/c of the fear that our sons would someday date girls with whom they share genetic ties. That has been our sticking point for the entire time I/we have been considering this. The agency that took up to age 32 specifically stated that they will not provide any information as to whether/how many children resulted from your donated eggs. I will call them next week, but I am not going to sign up for the completely anonymous donation unless my husband can get over that fear. It wouldn't be fair to anybody to end up in a position where he suddenly decided he couldn't deal with it after plans were already in motion.

KimSue~

Do you have a website link for your clinic? I'm 32 and aside from my age, have no health problems and since I just had a baby 8 months ago, I hardly doubt my eggs are in horrible condition.

I want to help with assisted reproduction, but around here the age cut off seems to be 30. So...I'm working on surrogacy route instead. Nonetheless, I'd still be interested in a clinic that allows egg donors up to 35 years.

Thanks!
