For those that have done donor eggs. I have heard that all the fees can be used as deductions on the federal taxes.

I'm reasonably certain you deduct the expenses in the year they're paid, even if services are rendered in the following year (or previous year).

HI Chris:

I got PG with my twins last Dec and deducted them in last year's taxes. I saved everything that had to do with that donor cycle to include the big bill, hotel receipt, etc...I had no problem getting my account to use it.

Hope this helps,

Gabrielle

Interesting question.
We got a loan from the credit union and paid off SG, so that's an expenditure from 2009 and was itemized on our 2009 taxes.
The loan is a home equity loan, so we also can deduct the interest which we pay each year, as far as I know.
So yes, I think it's separate. The interest is money above and beyond the principal, so you're not "double dipping" - the principal was deductible as the medical expense, and the interest is deductible for whatever reason (I don't know the rationale for that one).

I spoke with the financial gal at SG, and she said yes the de cycles can be an itemized medical deduction on your taxes and they will forward all the necessary paperwork sometime in January.

Ladies, don't forget to document the mileage!

I started a spreadsheet and backtracked through my med bills, etc. and documented all of the miles driven to/from every doc appt, lab draw, psych eval, acupuncture, you name it, if it had to do with our cycle, it is on there.

"You can claim a medical deduction per mile driven primarily for, and essential to, medical and dental care. This includes trips to the pharmacy to pick up prescriptions as well as visits to doctors, dentists, therapists, etc."

Thanks Mattie for the mileage reminder, I didn't even think of that or the dental.

That's a good reminder! Considering we drove about 7 hours each way, that adds up ... too bad I didn't think of it last year! LOL. Not to mention lodging while there I think. Oh well.

I think you get $50 per night for hotel (times two if your spouse "had" to travel with you to help you).
