Finally gettin' this show on the road

After several false starts and delays, we are FINALLY ready to start our first IVF cycle. We decided to use a donor egg right off the bat due to my age (45) and the fact that I miscarried my first (and only) pregnancy seven months ago. Because our donor has donated before, and is very prolific (30 fertilized oocytes last cycle), we are sharing her eggs with another couple (anonymous). This will be the first child for both of us. I start Lupron October 1st. Transfer is tentatively scheduled for October 27th. We plan to transfer only one embryo, which I realize puts me in the minority, especially on these boards. :-)

I'd love to hear from people who a) had a successful IVF over the age of 40, b) transferred only a single embryo and had a healthy baby, c) have IVF success stories of any kind!

Hi Kim Sue!

I'm 46, transferred one (fresh) embryo, and am 30 weeks along -- all is well! This will be my 2nd child -- first using DE.

I'd like to hear how your journey goes, Kim Sue,

Lukkie, I'm not sure what you mean by, "Has anyone had luck in contacting your anonymous egg donor?" We have not attempted to contact her and really don't feel a need to. That would also violate the agreement we made with the clinic. We do have an extensive health and family background on her which we will share with the child someday.

Perhaps you are

Hi KimSue,

To answer your question ... the only understanding I had with my clinic is that they would not provide me with details about my donor that would identify her. Further, I've noticed it's fairly commonplace to attempt contact with anonymous donors and, in my opinion, understandly so, since the children may someday wish to know their genetic roots. Of course, whether or not we connect is completely up to my donor; at least she knows I welcome her contact.

I did try to locate an open donor, but no clinic in my area offered this service. Unfortunately, I received limited information on her medical and family background so that's another piece of the puzzle.

Kudos to you for following a healthy diet and seeking alternative health care to help prepare your body -- your baby-to-be will be off to a great start! Hope things continue to go well for you.

Lukkie
