IUI with donor sperm

Hello,

Does anyone know if your odds with IUI using a donor's sperm are better than using your dh's sperm? I had my first IUI on Sunday with donor sperm. I was also on Clomid. Maybe I am looking for reassurance but I thought I would ask to see what some you thought.

Thanks and good luck to all,
Jenny

Hi Jenny and welcome!

It depends on lots and lots of things

How many follicles you got on clomid

How happy your lining was on Clomid

How many soldiers were in the sample

Did you pay your cable bill on time

Was the timing right

Did you see a rainbow today

Sorry...had to try to throw some humor in there. I've no idea what makes a cycle work...I have had a total of 19 dIUI and only one worked

Sometimes it just works...sometimes it doesn't

Good luck though and try to stay positive!

It would totally depend on if there is a problem with your DH's sperm. Generally, if you're doing DIUI (as opposed to au naturel), I would guess that there is a reason - that your DH's swimmers are not great?

My husband is sterile. My doctor thought that I should respond really well b/c she said my eggs had never seen actual sperm. I did take Clomid for an extra boost and had 2 really good sized follicles (25 and 20) and the technician said my lining looked "perfect". So I am just in that waiting game and I am thinking of all kinds of questions or scenarios. I am only 6 days past iui so it is really still too early to test.

Thanks for the reply.

I used to chat in the old ttc chat room and we had a motto...its never too early to test...if you want to throw money away

You SHOULD ask your doctor about a progestrone level test on Monday-ish

This test will verify that you did ovulate

And in my opinion (and after chatting w/so many ladies)...early testing of progestrone can lead to prevent early m/c.

Interestingly I did read a paper once that said chances with unfamiliar sperm are better. Perhaps it is because you have no antibodies to unfamiliar sperm.

HI Jenna...I read the same article (perhaps?)..perhaps in inciid?

There was a study done once where the DH's sperm would actively search and destroy another's sperm...as if there was a war almost

Because DH's sperm is so busy trying to defeat the new ones, the other sperm have a better chance of their goal

Almost like the DH's sperm get confused on their mission

Weird huh?

In your reply, you mentioned the progesterone. I am actually on progesterone capsules that I insert vaginally 3 times a day. My doctor did not mention any other testing before the actual pregnancy test after two weeks. I am having a lot of symptoms that could be attributed to either pms (I am 8 days past IUI) or the progesterone. I have been getting tired every day around 4 and my breasts are extremely sore!!!! I want to think that these could be pg symptoms, but I am trying to stay realistic. Especially since I have mild cramps everyday. Anyway....anything you could share as far as symptoms or advice would be soooooooooooo appreciated.
Where are you in the whole process?

Take care,
Jenny

Hi Jenny...

I am retired now...we did 11 iui for my now 6 yr old son and then 8 more for #2 before quitting

The progestrone levels need to be tested, especially if you are already on supps...too much won't hurt but if it is low today/tomorrow you need better supps

I hate to tell you that ALL your symptoms are from the progestrone...which STINKS because its just not fair!

You are almost there though...try to take it through one day at a time, which I know is so hard. I kept a journal while ttc and would write to my "maybe baby" - all my fears andhopes and dreams.

Testing early won't really help...a false negative is possible and an early positive - well both will drive you crazy

Give your doctor a call and dont ASK for the progestrone test but act like you forgot to make the appt at the lab and you lost your slip...make it sound like it was the doc's idea and you are the forgetful one. Docs hate it when you research stuff on the internet and then ask about it...don't know why but they do

Good luck!
