Hello. My name is Shannon, I am 23 years old and I am new to this board. I have been recently interested in dontating my eggs for someone to have a child. I know most people do it for the $$ and yes that is a part of it but for the most part I want to do it because I want to help someone have a child that by themselves cant. I wish in my position someone would help me in that way.

Anyway I have a few questions for someone who has or is donating..
- Can it affect my own fertility?
- What are the side affects? Any long term?
- Is it better to meet the parents-to-be or be anonymous?
- Should I donate before I have my own children?

I have tons more questions, but I thank you for taking the time to read what I have here.

Shannon

I honestly don't believe that donating eggs affects fertility in any way. If it did, I would never have taken those shots myself. However, these drugs do have side effects. For me, they weren't anything more than some abdominal swelling. But others report mood swings.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I am an egg donor. I just completed my second donation last week and am still recovering from surgery. Being an egg donor is a life changing process. There are many things to take into account before doing an egg donation. I think that most places prefer if you have already had at least one child of your own.. My suggestion to you is to visit www.fertilitynetwork.com and find a location in your area where you could become an egg donor. I recomend calling the facility and asking for information on becoming an egg donor. They might put you through a brief questionare to see if you would even qualify, and than send you tons of information about it that can answer most of your questions. The only negitive side effect that I have had besides the most common of slight pain, bloating and slight weight gain, is that I have developed ovarian hyperstimulation after my surgery (egg harvest). It is very uncomfortable and I am bloated from my ribs down to my pubic bone.. look pregrant. It goes away after a while, but is a bother while it lasts. If you have any questions, let me know.
