Can one get artificially inseminated by a donor without husband's consent?

I think that it depends on what state you're in. In Washington state, my husband needed to sign documentation that was witnessed by the clinic saying that he agreed. Because we are legally married, he is the legal father, no matter that it would not be his biologically.

I'm sure you could as long as it wasn't through a doctor.

Honestly- no judgment- in my experience, yes. My first IUI all I did was place an order online for the vial, it was shipped and doc did the procedure. Hubby wasn't even there.
My second, with a different bank, required a ton of notarized paperwork from both of us.

To be honest, I've toyed with the idea of doing this. My husband's sperm is practically dead. I don't hold out much hope that, even with IVF and ICSI, I could ever have child child. We were planning to do IVF with donor egg so we'd have a better chance. I sometimes wonder if I should do an IUI with donor sperm. His infertility is far, far, far worse than mine. He probably wouldn't agree to me using DS though, so I would be "on my own" with that.
