2 Qs - strange CM & irregular LP

Hi. I'm not on this board much, although I've been around IV for years. I just have two questions that I haven't been able to answer through the internet. I've been charting and using NFP for bc and ttc for 7 years now, with success in both areas.

Question 1: A few days after ovulating, I sometimes have stretchy cm for a day or so. It doesn't seem like EWCM to me, since mine is usually clear and wet and there's a lot of it. This is drier, gummier, and opaque. However, I can still get an inch or two of stretch out of it, which makes me wonder what it is. I've noticed it during my last 3 cycles, but not before that.

Question 2: When I first began charting, my LPs were 12-13 days long. As the years have passed, they've gotten shorter. It took 5 months to concieve my son, and I blame a lot of that on short LPs. He's two now, and since I started charting again 15 months ago, my LPs have varied from 7-15 days. They're usually 8-11 days, with a couple of wildcards thrown in sometimes. The internet tells me this is a symptom of PCOS, but I don't have any other symptoms. I'm in very good health, with the same habits, supplements, and exercise routine I've had for years.

Any ideas? Any other info you need? I'm not panicking over either question. It would just be nice to know what's going on. TIA!

Hi Monica.  I don't know if I'll have really good answers to your question...it might be more "ideas" than "answers".

1.  I've had this happen too.  It might have something to do with hormone fluctuations that occur between O and AF.  There's an estrogen surge that temporarily suppresses progesterone.  I don't know if that would have an effect on your cm or not, but it might.  As long as you've confirmed O, I wouldn't worry about it.  It's not an indicator of fertility.

2.  Age can mess with your cycles and LP.  I know it does mine, although with me, my LP is constant...it's the pre-O length that can vary and is always short.  Have you tried taking vitamin B6?  It can help with LP length, though its effect has more to do with progesterone levels.  If you want to try it, take 100 mg of B6 daily.  If it's going to work, it should work pretty quickly.  Without other symptoms of PCOS, I'd be surprised if you have it, based on that symptom alone.  I'd be more likely to think it's progesterone related.  Or thyroid.  Hmmmm.  Thyroid can mess with your cycles too.  Progesterone and thyroid imbalances are both diagnosible by a simple blood test.  You might look at symptoms of thyroid imbalances and see if you have any of those, to see whether it's worth looking into or not.

HTH...like I said, my answers are more "idea" than anything else, but sometimes it's nice to have someone else with which to bat ideas around.
