Oral vs vaginal temps

I finally bought a basal thermometer today and just realized it says "for oral use only" and only gives instructions for how to take your temp orally (by mouth)
Here's my questions, don't you get more accurate temps by taking them vaginally? I'm afraid that if I talk in my sleep or sleep with my mouth open it will affect my oral temp. Can a "oral only" basal thermometer be used vaginally?
TIA!

Hmmm. that's an interesting question. Are you having a lot of variability in your oral temps? I temped vag one cycle just to see if there was much of a difference and found that my chart didn't differ all that much, so I've always temped orally.

I would guess that your BBT would be just fine to temp with vaginally if you wanted to, but I'm not 100% sure. Perhaps someone else will pop up who knows for certain!

Thanks for the reply,
I haven't started temping yet, but I've read a few articles and post that say if you often talk in your sleep, sleep with your mouth open or snore it can cause your temps to be rocky/inaccurate. I had just planned on temping vaginally to avoid this.
And I've pretty much decided my BBT should be fine either vag or orally...I guess we'll see...LOL

You can use the oral thermometer...it works just fine for taking your temp either place.
