Post-baby charting -- what's with my CM?

I haven't posted on this message board before. I read TCOYF years ago and have been charting ever since. I used it for BC first, and then to conceive my daughter. My charts were practically textbook examples, and it wasn't until recently that I've had any confusion.
My morning temps are still in a fine and normal pattern, but my CM is crazy. Some days I'm dry as paper, and the next day creamy, and the next day dry. I'm still getting very wet CM during my LP, but not consistently. We're charting for BC again now, but in a few months will TTC again. It's important we wait out these months, so I don't want to slip. But I'm getting fed up with this CM that can't make up its mind. The only time I'm 100% sure I'm safe is during the 5 days after AF starts. Everything else shows my cycles to be a good 28-30 days long and all in order, so I'm getting tempted to ignore the CM and go by the other signs. But I'm also scared to do that.
I'm not sure if it matters, but my daughter is 18 months old, and I'm still BFing just a little. Seriously, barely anything. I can go a day without and not feel the slightest difference. It's just a habit she loves before bed and first thing in the morning.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Charting is so much harder than it was before my baby!
