MTHFR disorder

Ok, so I got the results back from the Hematologist I saw 2 weeks ago. Everything was normal except I have MTHFR. It was relieving to know they found something and devastating at the same time. I am now going on meds to combat the low Folic Acid and Vitamin B deficiency. With this issue I am at higher risk of miscarriage anytime during pregnancy and blood clots.  I am scared out of my mind moving into IVF next week. Does anyone on this board have this disorder and can help me ease my mind. I will be talking to the doctor more about this next week when I go in for my baseline. There is a possibility I will be placed on a blood thinner to reduce the risk of clots. Ugh… if it is not one thing it is another. L

I have this also, from both parents. I didn't find out until about 6 months ago. On the bright side, I never got pg before I started baby aspirin and extra folic acid and B daily. But I'm not sure if my pregnancy was from IUI or taking the meds. My sister also has this and had a completely normal pregnancy. My RE seems to think it's not that big of a deal. He said that 10% of the population has it (as many people as who have blue eyes) but I too was pretty devastated when I heard. I felt like it was just one more thing to add to my big pile of infertility.

I still take the meds daily and hope it helps but I got a BFN on last IUI, so who knows! Good luck with IVF!

Me 33, DH 36. TTC since November 2007. Possible miscarriage in January of 2008 (too early for BFP, but all symptoms point to miscarriage). Normal SA in Feb 2009. HSG showed large (50% of uterus) fundal fibroid in Feb 2009. Hysteroscopically removed in March 2009. Tried to concieve naturally until August. Repeat HSG was normal. 6 cycles of Clomid alone...never had a BFP. IUI #1 = 01/13/10, BFN. IUI #2 = 3/11/10, BFP 03/26/10, beta 1 = 57.5, beta 2 (4 days after 1) = 661. Ectopic in right tube. Lap to remove 4/3/10.

Hello...

I have MTHFR...I was diagnosed after 2 miscarriages. They have put me on extra folic acid and a baby aspirin. I haven't been pregnant since I found out. My husband and I are taking a very much needed break from "trying". We are hoping for IVF in the new year (2011). I have heard the same...that MTHFR is common and many people don't even know they have it. My mother tested MTHFR positive after I was diagnosed and she had 3 normal, healthy children.

Hope this helps....good luck with you IVF!!

I also have hetero MTHFR. Is yours the hetero or homo version. I know that sounds horrible :) The hematologist should have told you if you have one copy or two. I also tested with low Protein S, another blood clotting issue, so will be on Lovenox injections once I am pregnant. It is scary stuff! I know it is such a pain, and you just would love to get pregnant naturally and have a normal pregnancy! I agree, and understand. Hopefully adding in a baby aspirin, and some extra vitamins is all you need for your sticky BFP!

I am also starting IVF soon. Lupron starts on 7/6 and then baseline u/s and b/w on the 12th. There are already a couple of us July/Aug IVFers chatting in the support group section if you want to join. I know this seems like such a crazy process. GL!
