I'm another newbie here...here's my basic story.

I'm 27, husband is 30.  We started ttc in June 2006, didn't expect any problems.  After a year, I went in for my annual exam and told the gyno we were having problems.  He did some blood work and suggested Clomid.  I wanted to wait on the blood work before starting any meds.  Well, my FSH:LH ratio runs between 2.5:1 and 3:1, clinically diagnostic for PCOS (this is what my doc told me).  I don't really feel I have PCOS, since that is the only clinical indicator that I have for it, but whatever.  I had an HSG, it showed my tubes were fine.  Husband's semen analysis was totally normal.  I started the Clomid, did that for 3 months, and, according to progesterone levels, I ovulated all 3 times.  Had intercourse days 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 all 3 months.  Negative pregnancies tests all 3 times.  I went back for some baseline labs, without the Clomid, and they showed that I ovulated just fine without it.  So, currently, I'm trying the basal body temperature charting, which does not seem to correlate very well with the cervical mucus.  We are gearing up to go see a reproductive endocrinologist early in the new year, and hopefully we'll get some answers.

We haven't told my in-laws about this, or many of our joint friends.  We have told my family and my friends at work, several of whom are experiencing the same thing.  I'm really looking for some outlet to vent/compare/cry/laugh, since it is such a hard thing to go through.  People are generally well-meaning, but uncomfortable, and sometimes say really hurtful things.

Thanks for listening/reading.  You all seem like a great bunch of women!

Hi Jess

I am glad that you found this board. I am glad that I found it too! I am sorry to hear about you not having great success with Clomid. Your story sounds very familiar to my own and my regular gyno had me do three rounds of Clomid. (none of them worked:( I know that Clomid is very effective for some women, but for me I felt like they just threw out the easiest, most generic option. I felt like it had little to do w/ my body and more to do with their protocol. I don't know what your insurance situation is, but if you have coverage, I would recommend moving onto a RE as soon as you feel ready. I am very fortunate to have 99% coverage for everything up to IVF (I have NO IVF coverage). I felt like with the RE and the specialized staff that things were actually tailored to my body and that there was an individualized plan. I also think it is important (if you have the luxury) to like and trust your RE.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. If there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer, don't hesitate. I have been through a lot of the procedures (just about everything except IVF), and one proved to be successful for me.

Take Care,

Kim B.

I'm in VA and my fertility clinic offers "package" deals as well. Don't be afraid of them. Mine calls it the share risk program.

Hello Jess and Welcome!

Seeing an RE is the absolute best thing you can do.
