blocked tubes

Has anyone here had blocked tubes? I found out that my right tube is completely blocked and my left is about 95% blocked. My appointment to discuss option w/doctor isn't for another week. My insurance won't cover any fertility work up or surgery, so if I have to have surgery to clean out my tubes I may elect to go straight to IVF. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

I haven’t had experience with that.

Hugs to you.
About the test... like I said, I had an HSG about 5 years ago. Noone told me to take pain medicine before having it done. Let me tell you, I've never given birth but I would imagine it is something like the pain I felt. I don't normally get cramps. It was sever cramping during the procedure. The whole thing only took about 10-15 minutes from start to finish. So luckily it didn't take that long. I can honostly say I don't believe in taking the Lord's name in vein, but I was yelling, "Oh My God" for about half the time. My doctor and me (at the time) really clashed about our thoughts on clomid, so I just thought he had it in for me and was trying to hurt me on purpose. This doctor was a real quack!!!!!!!!!! I could and shoud have sued him over a couple of things but luckily we moved and I never had to see him again.
Back to my story...I had the test done last week and I had talked with a couple of people that had it done and they said it didn't really hurt. I didn't take any chances this time. The radiology department never gave me instructions, so I took some Lortab about an hour and half before the test. I was getting nervous that it would wear off so I took more about 30min. before the test. So I go back to the testing room and I told the nurse that I took Lortab, she then tells me that they usually tell patients to take Advil. I was thinking, "that would NOT help." The doctor, a resident) told me I would feel some mild discomfort and women don't usually have a problem with the pain. I hear to tell you...it was horrible. I almost threw up 3 times because the pain was unbareable. Toward the end I was telling the doctor that I couldn't handle anymore. Luckily the test was finished. The doctor was a resident and he told me that everything looks fine. I got a call the next day saying they were blocked. I went online to search for possible reasons for clogged tubes. The reasons were clamydia, pelvic inflammatory disease, (both of which are STD's) trauma to the area and past surgeries to the area. I knew for a fact that I have never had an STD (only 3 partners ever and never any problems down under if you know what I mean) and I knew that I never had any trauma or surgeries. So I don't know what is blocking my tubes. I go back to the doctor this week to discuss my option. Hopefully she'll give me some insight. In the meantime I'm requesting my test results and med records from my last HSG from the freak doctor that did it the first time. He's the only one that could have messed up my tubes.
So that's it in a nutshell. You just asked for the weather and I gave you the news and sports with the weather. I'm still bitter about the whole thing. Mainly that people haven't been honost with me. If someone would have told me it hurts like hell, I could have been mentally prepared for the pain (or taken Advil). The only reason I can think of it hurting so bad was because they were blocked and the doctor was trying to force liquid thru them. That wouldn't explain the pain the first time, unless that doctor was wrong and they were really blocked then too.
This whole reply sounds so negative. Dispite the pain...I'm VERY GRATEFUL that I requested the test. At least now I know why I'm not getting pg and I can concentrate on IVF or surgery.
I'll send prayers your way. It might help to take someone with you. I was alone and that wasn't the wisest decision. I really wish my partner would have been with me. Hopefully you'll be one of those women that it doesn't really hurt.
Let me know how it goes!!! I'm really curious!
Hey There,
I could not resist to reply. I do not want to scare you but I went into this test with no reservations and acted like it was no big deal and I was shocked. I went by myself thinking it was no big deal(first mistake). Take your DH or a friend or anyone to drive you and to be your support. Both of my tubes were blocked which I guess added to the pain. Your doc should be able to give you pain meds before or at the least just take an over the cournter pain reliever (second mistake) Since my tubes were blocked the dye thing was not going through my tubes easily. It felt like bad menstral cramps for a little bit then it got much worse. I just remember the doc. saying it would just be 5 more min. and I just did not think I could do it. My question to you is why are you having the test and what will you do with the information gathering from the test?
I do not have the answers for you I just thought I would give you my experience. I have also heard of women who did not think it was that bad. It might just depend it you have blockage or not. I still have not concieved. I had the surgery where they cleaned out my tubes a year and a half ago and still not luck. Doc. says we need to do IVF but we do not have the money since our house in Colorado (where we used to live) has not sold in a year. Once the house sells, we will do IVF.
Good luck with it all. Once again I did not write this to scare you, just to prepare you as to what it can be like. Let me know how it goes.

In response to the comments on pain during the test, I experienced quite a bit of pain also. It was just discomfort at first, but my doctor ended up having to use a tool called a tenaculem (sp?) which is like a large clamp that locks into place. No avoiding pain with that! Probably the women who didn't have very much pain didn't have to have that tool used. I went alone also, and support would have been nice. I did have cramping for about an hour or two afterwards, and spotting for 2-3 days, but am now fine.
Good luck with your test and God bless!
Hey wanted to give you ladies a ray of hope!!
My Sister-in-Law had blocked tubes, well she had the test were they shot dye through them and couple months later she became PG! She had been through a couple IVF's, adopted a baby and then got PG. SO it can happen!!
Have a great day!!
