I need some advice or guidance...

I need some advice or guidance or maybe just support...

I am 37, I have PCOS and a thyroid condition. I am also overweight and haven't had a period on my own since I was about 18. In the last 5 months I have lost 30 pounds and my diabetes is very controlled. I have also started having periods on my own (without the aid of Provera). I'm telling you all of this so that you know some stuff first.

In 2005, after an IUI I got PG. My estradiol level was only at 192 when I had the IUI. Unfortunately, at 9 weeks I miscarried because they tell me it wasn't viable and my DH and I were devastated. We have been trying for 8+ years. We then lost the insurance that allowed us infertility treatments. This year we gained the insurance back and Oct. 14th I had my first u/s and started Gonal-F injections intramuscularly. My estradiol levels went from 27 to 459 in 13 days. All the other treatments I have had in the past, they were never able to see my ovaries. This time they found both. Of course, after that first time, they could only see both at the same time 2 other times. They really couldn't see my left one that well, but on the right one they did find 2 follicles. When my estradiol level plateaued at 459 the sizes of the follicles THEY COULD see were 9 and 8. I took the Ovidrel injection on the 13th night and had my IUI on Nov. 1st. 4 days after my IUI I started taking progesterone and I take 1 a day.

Now, I'm playing the waiting game, but I wanted to ask if anybody has had success getting PG with numbers and follicle sizes like mine. Granted, there could have been another follicle that they couldn't see that was bigger, but...

Thank you for any advice or support you can give,

Amy

Hi Amy,

I've never been pregnant before so I'm sorry I can't answer your question. And I don't know a whole lot about estrogen levels and how they relate to follicles. But it sounds to me like there may have been a big follie on the ovary they couldn't see. I'm still learning about follie sizes...but my doctor seems to trigger when they are about 16-20mm. And I know my estrogen levels have something to do with it, but I'm not sure what. So with such a high estrogen level, maybe they figured you have one or several big follies on the hidden ovary. Good luck with your IUI and I hope you finally get the pregnancy and baby that you so deserve after more than 8 years of trying!
