Lupron?

My dr. mentioned putting me on Lupron and then doing injectibles. From what I've read it has horrible side affects which can occur even after stopping it, that it's been approved for prostate cancer and endo but not fda approved for infertility. Has anyone taken this drug and experienced side effects? I could not tell whether the effects were more towards someone taking it long term for endo vs 10 days for infertility treatment. Thanks!

Hi
I took Lupron for approx 40 days during my injection cycle. It is used to prevent O from occurring before your follicles have matured. Essentially it is a tool to allow the RE to manipulate your cycle. I think the decision to take any drug is personal one. I personally used the cost/benefit analysis. For me, I had fewer side effects from the Lupron then I did when we tried Clomid w/o success. The side effects I did experience were weight gain (likely just water, but I gained about 8 lbs over the course of my 50 day injection cycle. I also had some pretty intense hot flashes. Other then that, I did not find Lupron to be too problematic. If you read the labels, nearly all drugs used to treat infertility were intended for something else. In conjunction with Lupron I took Menopur to stimulate and estradiol and prometrium. It gets down right scary when you start reading their intended purposes. With that being said, my DH and I tried for naturally for six months and had zero success. We then used Clomid and did five IUI's and still nothing. Finally we did the injection cycle with BCP for 21 days and then Lupron and then Menopur. I am now going on seven weeks pregnant and saw the heartbeat today:) For us, the hot flashes and the weight gain were so worth it!
Good Luck whatever you decide!
