New Looking for reassurance and a friend

Hello Ladies.. I am pretty new to this but I need to find some friends and support out there. My names Andrea and Ill give you the background story of everything and maybe someone is having some of the same issues as I am. Im 26 and overweight. I was getting my period for a consistent 4 months at a time and had been shuffled from doctor to doctor. I finally got to my current OB GYN and he suggested that I see a GYN Endo. So I did and wound up I had polyps in my uterus. Had them removed the very begining of July and was told that this was the best time to try to concieve. Only problem at that point was that my body produces too much estrogen and not enough progesterone as well as the fact that I dont ovulate on my own.

Cycle 1 started on August 6th. The doctor them started me on 50mg of clomid on Day 4. I took it Day 4-8 On day 12 my levels were rising and the folicles were growing On day 17 they canceled my cycle because everything then came to a stand still. My insurance had put waaay too many stipulations on my treatment and would only cover a natrual cycle. So I guess I have to chalk cycle 1 up to a learning experience.

Once they cancelled my cycle I was instructed to do a 7 day series of prometrium 200mg a day to bring on another period. I am very nervous about going through the tests and ultrasounds again.

I was told that this time I will be doing clomid 100mg ovidrel and an IUI.

Has anyone been through this procress and do You have any words of wisdom or advice for me.

Wishing you all the best!!

I am sorry that you have to go through this. I had an IUI in June that ended in pregnancy but sadly was lost due to an ectopic pregnancy. I've never been on Clomid so can't help you there. I did use Femara instead which is similar but doesn't thin your lining and has less side effects. How long have you been ttc?

Good luck!

We have been ttc for about 1 year 6 months. I am hopeful that my dr is going to be able to guide us to a bfp!! My cousin who was also a patient of his only has one ovary and was able to concieve after about 3 months of treatments. I am very worried as far as success rates but I am trying to stay as positive as possible. After I was given the icky voicemail from my dr's office that they were canceling the cycle I was so distraught and remembered that I had browsed through here before and was hoping that someone on here would be in my same boat.

Hi Andrea. Like you I am new to the board. I just completed my first Clomid cycle at 100 mg. I can't give you any advice on the insurance stuff, but if you go to coupons.com there's a 75% off prescription coupon for someone without insurance. Might help you get the drugs you need to start ovulating. Also, Freedom Fertility is a mail-order pharmacy that my specialist goes through and they have discounted rates for women without insurance coverage. Have they done blood tests to make sure there are no other hormone issues? Have you been diagnosed with PCOS?

I'm a little confused on why everything came to a halt? Because the insurance didn't cover it? Or your body quit growing follicles and didn't ovulate?

The cycle that was canceled was because the fact that the folicles stopped growing and it didnt seem as though i was going to ovulate. My health insurance was only covering a natural cycle which means that they will cover the tests and blood work only if I did not used anythign to make me ovulate. They wanted me to ovulate on my own . Unfortunately the doctor has said I do not ovulate on my own and i would have to take ovidrel.

I do have issues with hormones as far as the lack of progesterone and the over abundence of estrogen. But they have said that I do not have PCOS. My underlying issue is the amount of estrogen I produce.

One this I do have going for me is my prescirption plan is something seperate from my health care and they cover the clomid and ovidrel .

Right now I am on day 4 of taking prometrium and I have this odd feeling that this time around its going to be a rough begining of a cycle.

What is your next plan of attack with your doc?

Wow, that's really stupid that they will only cover the cycle if you don't take anything to ovulate!

Andrea I am in the EXACT same place as you. I am 24 and I do not ovulate and usually have 3 months between periods. Originally my OB put me on Metformin, I am on an extended release Metformin 750mg twice a day. They said I have PCOS which is why I do not ovulate and why my hormones are all out of wack.

Now this next part still has me upset. I went for my first RE appointment a couple weeks ago. That RE told me I was too overweight for them to help and I had to lose 20lbs before they would even consider putting me on meds. Which they were just going to put me on Clomid AGAIN (I have already done 3 rounds of Clomid and not ovulated). I became very upset because of course, especially since I have been trying my whole life to lose weight. Long story short I made an appointment with another RE. I asked the woman who answered the phone if they would do the same thing to me and she said legally all she can say is that there are overweight people there who they are treating. I will tell you after September 15th how it goes.

My suggestion to you would be see if your doctor things Metformin would help at all. I know on a personal level that my periods are starting to come closer together. Recently my period was only 33 days apart which is very good for me. Even though my tests said I did not ovulate I remain very hopeful because in the beginning I neede Provera to have my period at all.

Hang in there I know you will find great support here and hopefully help you learn the questions to ask your doctors. I know that has been one of the biggest things I have gained from being here.

Good Luck! I had terrible hot flashes on Clomid, among other things. My poor DH was constantly freezing because I would push all the blankets off.

Welcome to the board. I hope that you find the reassurance that you are looking for here. I have not had the insurance problems that you unfortunately are going through. But when I first started going to my RE I was on Clomid with IUI.

Any time you have any questions about what you are going through don't hesitate to call you RE that's what they are there for. I know i called my RE with questions.

Good luck with your next Clomid IUI cycle.
