Provera treatment for PCOS?

I finally got in to see an RE, who immediately diagnosed me with PCOS upon ultrasound. He put me on BC, but it was really awful and I've determined that none I've ever taken have agreed with me, and I'm never taking BC again.

He said I would have to go to plan B, which is coming to his office every month for... a shot? Or a pill, or something? He said Provera, but I didn't know it was a shot, I have taken the pills in the past. He also said that I would have to have an ultrasound and bloodwork every month in addition to the shot. My question is, why? I have not found anything online to indicate that this is standard procedure, and my GYN was about to hand me a year's worth of the pills and send me on my merry way.

A monthly ultrasound and bloodwork is probably going to be expensive. Has anyone else encountered this as the norm?

I'm not sure if that's the normal, but sounds like he wants to closely monitor to you which isn't a bad thing. He probably wants to see if the meds help improve your progesterone levels. It could get expensive though, do you think your insurance will cover any of it? I would ask him outright why he is doing this just so you know what he's trying to accomplish.
