When do you switch doctors?

I've been with my ob/gyn for the longest time and am very comfortable with her.  I've not been able to get pregnant though, we've been tryng for awhile and have talked about using Clomid.  I'm just very nervous about the whole thing and not sure if it's time to move onto a specialist.  When do you know it's the right time to switch to one?  I'm not sure I want to be with a doctor who I'm unfamiliar with and I don't trust completely.

Hello, My experience was that I waited longer than I should have to see an infertility endocrinologist.  I thought that if I got most of the tests done prior to seeing the specialist, it would make things easier, but it was the opposite.  I had an HSG test done and the lady at the hospital didn't do it right.  She ended up telling me I had only one ovary and a partial uterus.  After I saw the specialist and got a laparoscopy, the specialist informed me that none of that was true.  So, long story short, it is better if the specialist actually performs the tests since they have had more medical training.  Infertility has been a long journey for us, so I say get to the specialist now.  Good luck!!

I completely agree. We stayed with our OB for about two years and one of my biggest regrets is not seeing an RE earlier. Plus, you will learn to love your new doc. I miss them all now that I am FINALLY pg and see a regular OB again.

I think it depends on a lot of factors.  1) how long have you been trying 2) how old you are 3) how aggressive do you want to be?  I think a consult with an RE can't hurt and could only diagnose an issue earlier if you have one.  I think many of us always thing if only we went earlier, we wouldn't have wasted so much time.  Lots of luck to you!
