Any high FSH IVF success stories out there?

I may be starting IVF soon and am in need of some good stories from high FSHers.   I'm 37 and just finished 2 IUI cycles.  My FSH at the beginning of this cycle came back at 15.2 :smileysad:.  My previous two tests were 9.9 last June, and 7.5 this June(but my E2 was way high from two cysts so probably artificially supressed).  So this is my first very high reading.  Of course now I'm worried that I won't produce any/enough eggs/embryos for IVF.  My RE is planning the antagonist protocol which seems to be the right choice for someone in my situation.  Does anyone have any success stories for me?

I'm currently on 2 weeks of BCPs as part of my protocol(also waiting for insurance approval).  I'm going to ask to get my FSH rechecked before I start stims on day 3.  Should I wait another cycle if fsh is still high?  I'm wondering if I would get better results waiting for a cycle with lower FSH?  I've aready had delays and really want to try IVF now, but also want to have the best chance of success.  Also, I believe that if i don't get anything to transfer that my insurance will not authorize more IVF cycles at least with my own eggs.  I'm not ready to consider donor eggs yet.

Welcome to the board. I am sorry that your journey to motherhood landed you in IVF Land, but hopefully, it will be the right place for you to finally succeed. :smileyhappy:

I believe we have a couple ladies on the board who have had high FSH numbers. Hopefully one of them can give you some insight as to how their cycles went and what might have helped.

Good luck!

Christina, have they checked AMH? My understanding is FSH can vary from cycle to cycle but AMH is considered a more consistent measure of ovarian reserve. Also, have they done an antral follicle count? That can also be helpful in determining ovarian reserve. I don't know if waiting would be helpful but hopefully someone with first hand experience will respond. Good luck!!!!!

Thanks.  I haven't had my AMH tested and I don't think they've ever done an antral follile count.  If they have, they haven't told me how many.  I will ask about these next time I see my RE, although it's probably just one more thing to stress over.  I'm thinking that we're probably just going to move forward with the IVF and hope for the best.

Hi Christina,

I had/have a high FSH level too. My numbers were 13, 14, & 16. I don't know for certainty that these things helped, but I can tell you that after 3 IVF's with only 3 embryos each, I got more than double the embryos after adding these things. I did not go on to have a baby with any of the 5 IVF's I did. I had 1BFN, 1 blighted ovum, 2 chemical pregnancies, and a m/c. I did go on to have a healthy baby with an IUI. I'm due with #2 in Oct which was from my second IUI.  Maybe these supplements helped get my body healthy again. Obviously you should check with a doctor before adding them. You should also make sure you know when to stop taking them. Some you might stop before retrieval, transfer, or after a positive pregnancy test. I started seeing a acupuncturist who specialized in fertility. She recommended a multi-vitamin, Omega 3 fatty acid (2grams/day) make sure oil is from fish bodies (anchovies, sardines, krill etc),  CoQ10 (90mg/day), and Pycnogenol (50-100mg/day). I researched DHEA and added that along with drinking Fertilitea. I avoided alcohol, caffeine (coffee, soda), and nicotine. Avoid taking NSAIDS. I also tried to eat as healthy as possible (lots of organic fruits &veggies).

I know this may seem overwhelming, but it just became routine after a few days. If you are going to add any of these...PLEASE check with your doctor first. I don't know if my doctor believed it could help, but I didn't have much to lose as they gave me 2% chance of having my own biological baby. Above all, keep hope! I found comfort in knowing what my next step would be if the cycle didn't work, while hoping and believing that it would.

I hope this helps. Sending you lots of good luck!
