FET success?

Hi ladies- I haven't been on the boards in forever so here's a quick run down of my fertility history: I have crohns disease which affects my intestines and colon. After a 2007 surgery I'm in remission. 2008 began trying to get pregnant. Lots of tests=unexplained fertility. 4 IUIs and an IVF later I have a perfect, almost 2 yo baby boy! Dec 2012 I find out I'm pregnant and find out soon after its ectopic. 11 weeks and 2 methotrexate shots later I'm finally not pregnant. We took 3 months off to recover and then began 50 of clomid and progesterone. 3 cycles all BFN. I just completed an unmediated cycle with an hsg and another bfn. About to start 100 of clomid and injectable progesterone for the last cycle with my ob. Ok, sorry that really wasn't short!! I have 1 frozen embryo from my IVF. It's great quality and was a 6 day blast. My husband and I are willing to do the fet but we are scared to death about the embryo not surviving the thaw or it not implanting. We put 2 embryos in the first round and had a singleton. Those that have done fet, what was your experience/success/ advice? TIA Rachael

I never had the opportunity personally to do an FET, but I know several women who have and more than one who had a success with only one frozen embryo.

On an aside, I just want to make sure you have been taking folic acid supplements after the methotrexate. It would have seriously depleted your folic acid when you took it (which is why you have to wait so long to start trying again after the shot) and you will want to be building that level back! You probably already know that, but I just wanted to make sure.

Good luck! Hopefully this last IUI will work, but if not, an FET with your little frozen embryo might be a good next step.

Thanks for the encouragement! And yes, I've been taking lots of folic acid through a pill as well as a powder supplement. We are actually not doing IUIs just trying naturally with the meds.

Sorry about your ectopic =(

No experience here just yet...but I also have a 2010 IVF success baby =) An we also had a singleton after transferring two embryos. We have four in the freezer and will be doing a single embryo FET in September. We are choosing to do a single embryo FET because we would like to limit the chance of twins. Good luck making a decision, I know it's not an easy one.

Thanks Caryn! That encourages me that others are choosing to just implant 1. We would definitely prefer a singleton. Right now I am debating on whether we should even proceed with this current medicated cycle or just go forward with the fet since that is our best option. I think my husband and I are both reaching that frustration level of trying on our own especially when we know the fet is an option and a likelihood. Good luck to you!!!!

Clomid makes me CRAZY so I'd probably opt for the FET but that's just me =) My RE said they are finding it more common all the time for couples to opt for single transfers, especially as FET success rates improve. I know all too well the frustration level...good luck making the call on which way to move forward! Hope your 2nd BFP is on the way really soon.

Good Luck!!!  I did a FET in July and currenlty preggo.. We only transferred one because i didn't want twins.  Success rate usually depend on your clinic an also how the embryo was frozen.  If using the faster freezing technique thaw rates are  higher.  ya never know what can happen..  Keep us posted.

Caryn, I just read your blog and I am so curious to follow your FET process! We've decided to do 1 month of the 100 mg clomid. Mainly because my ob encouraged it, but also sine we did conceive naturally (even though it was ectopic) I wasn't willing to let go just yet on the hopes of a natural ( well as natural as it gets with clomid) cycle. Good luck with your FET. If this isn't our cycle then I should be having mine in oct.

I can understand holding on to the hope that the Clomid will do the trick! If I had ever had a natural conception I'd probably feel very similar. Thanks so much for your good thought on the FET. Lupron starts Monday =) Sending lots of good luck on your Clomid cycle this month - hopefully Sept is lucky for both of us!!!

Hi, I haven't posted much this cycle, but I had a FET last wednesday of one day 6 blast.  It thawed well, I was so worried about that.  We only had one left from our IVF in 2010.  We also transferred two at that time and had a baby boy.  So, I POAS today and it's positive.  I go for my first beta saturday.  We did try one timed BD cycle and 2 IUI, all with letrozole this time before moving to the FET.  Good luck.  I will come back to post my betas.

Congrats!!! That's so exciting. What made you go ahead with the FET? Did you ever consider the fresh? I'm so nervous about only having the 1 embryo to work with!
