transfer with ohss?

Hi Ladies,

I haven't posted on here in ages.  I have 1 DD from my first IVF (born April 08).  We did a 2nd round of IVF Nov. 09 - Apr. 10 w/ 3 failed transfers.  I am currently in my 3rd round of IVF.  I had ER on Wed.  I hyperstimulate every time I do a fresh cycle.  And this time seems to be no different so far (I guess it's expected after they take out 50+ eggs!).  Tons of bloating/distention.  The last 2 IVF cycles (fresh) we have just frozen everything and then started FETs the next month.  But there is a part of me that would love to try a fresh transfer once.  I have a check up tomorrow to see if there is much fluid build up.  My Dr. is pretty cautious when it comes to OHSS.  And I have a feeling he'll say no way on a transfer (it would be tomorrow if we do it...day 3).    So my question is...is there anyone out there that did a transfer even though they had ohss?  If you got pg did the ohss get bad/worse?  Any stories you have would be greatly appreciated.

As of yesterday we had 15 fertilized eggs.  We'll see what the count is today.  Praying they are all still going strong.

I have never had OHSS but do know that if you get PG then the OHSS can get worse because of the rising HCG levels. This is part of the reason why Dr.s do not like to do transfer if a patient has signs of OHSS.

Good Luck!!

Hi Mary,

I got moderate OHSS (perisentisis to drain 750ml of fluid and blood thiners for 6 weeks) with my IVF cycle and got a BFP.

i had a severe case of OHSS (was actually hospitalized) and my RE decided not to do a fresh transfer because of how much worse it would have gotten if we had...

i am thankful she was so proactive in that respect...

GL to you.. i hope you make whatever decision is best for you :)

I have a story.

I had OHSS, but didn't know it. In my first and only cycle they only got 8 eggs so the thought of OHSS was really not on any ones mind. So, we went in and had the transfer 5 days later and all was still going good. I started to get the bloating that everyone talks about but just thought it was a side effect of all the meds I had been on. Then,

Hi Mary,

I, too, have over achiever ovaries (at least with IVF stims and ERs)- I got 40 eggs and was excrutiatingly uncomfortable afterward. However, I never knew whether I truly had OHSS or not, because there was some fluid in my abdomen, but not a huge amount, and the real issue was extreme swelling with my ovaries, which caused all of my organs to shift around and be uncomfortable. I do know that forcing fluid helped a lot, and I tried to increase my protein, too, but since I was still peeing pretty normally, I'm guessing it was swelling more than OHSS. Regardless, my dr made it clear that he would not be in favor of a transfer if I wasn't peeing normally, and if I said I was uncomfortable, because the pregnancy's HCG would make me feel far worse (you already know that though). What he said that was interesting to me though is that there is no difference in the likelihood of success of a transfer and pregnancy, even with OHSS- that surprised me, but he showed me the statistics that even full OHSS doesn't endanger a pregnancy or reduce the likelihood of success! Just thought I'd throw that in there...

Good luck!
