My RE has a checklist of things to do before we can have an IVF cycle. One of the things is attend a seminar about the process/policies/procedures. DH and I went last night. On the one hand it was long and we didn't learn much that we didn't already know. But I can see their point in requiring it. Not everyone does all the research first and this is the clinic's version of informed consent.

Well now its making me wonder about the two shared risk plans. Do

Thanks for sharing your experience. It definitely helps to know my odds. We're already stretching financially to pay for this whether its $12K for one try or $23K for 6 tries.

I would definately do the 23K option. Most people don't get preggo on the first try. We had male factor issues and it took 3 fresh cycles to finally get a BFP. I had no issues and actually stimmed perfectly everytime with plenty of eggs, and still it took 3X because of the sperm issues.

Yikes! Did you do ICSI? My RE said she really doesn't want to do w/o it.

We did ICSI all 3 times. The first time I had more eggs than they could find sperm for and they actually had to discard some of my eggs.

Thank you so much for this info! I was blissfully ignorant thinking ICSI would solve our MFI problems. I've read a lot about varicoceles and even took DH to our PCP to ask. He said DH doesn't have them - w/o even checking him out. Sigh. It is more likely that DH's sperm problems are from the VR. When he had the reversal the surgeon said one side reconnected and the other may not have. Our PCP also brought up the fact of sperm antibodies with VR patients.
Thanks again, you definitely helped me decide on the $23K option.

ICSI should be able to give you a good fertilization rate, its just what will happen afterwards is the million dollar question. No doctor can tell you for sure and thats why I think the 23K insurance policy is good. Then there is the question of how well you will stimulate. The doctors can make a really good educated guess based on your blood work and age, but its after you start actually taking the meds that they know how well you react to the meds. Everyone is different.
