Welcome aboard Chouli77. My DH and I have been TTC for several years now and one place where I have found solace when I felt no one in the world could understand me (thanks to all the meds n their side effects :smileyvery-happy:), is this board filled with supportive women who have also gone through similar trials. No question is ever 'dumb' or 'crazy' so

Hello Sheri,

Welcome aboard and sorry to note you have had such a trying time over 15 years. There are lots of wonderful ladies out here whose experiences may help you navigate your current situation so don't be shy when it comes to asking a question :-)

Some feedback from my personal experience and to answer your questions: 1) I have not personally used the ARC financing (you can find some more info on resolve.org) however some of the feedback I have read from others who have used it sounded encouraging. 2) I have not had personal experience here however do read up on TESE and see if that helps (Testicular Sperm Extraction) 3. If you are referring to the injections themselves ...not necessarily. It all depends on the protocol your RE has you on. Some take birth control pills before the IVF cycle itself and some may be on microdose lupron injections before adding the other hormones (I actually did this with IVF#1 but was placed on a different protocol for my current cycle). 4. No experience here. 5. There are many factors that come into play when determining how many embies get transferred. A clinic's protocol, RE's approach, your age etc etc. I just completed ET today and had 2 blasts transferred (Day 5) however with IVF #1 it was 2 Day 3 embies (I got a BFN with that cycle). I also had a FET with 2 blasts and got a BFN. So there really isn't a one-size-fits all in this case. 6. The hormones did make me "crazy" with IVF #1 however aside from headaches the first couple of days I have pretty much been relaxed with IVF #2. Again, it all depends on how your body reacts to the meds, which meds you are on, the dosage etc.

I wish you the best as you preprare for your IVF cycle #1.

Hello ladies. I am an old lurker, been on the boards for a few years but I have changed my user name - lost the old information, lol.
We have been TTC for 4 years now. Had a few surgeries for blocked tubes & endometriosis. Several IUI & a ton of meds. Nothing has worked. We haven't gotten a BFP in about 1.5 years. Each BFP always ends with a miscarriage. We are moving on to IVF in May. I am not sure what to expect. We will be self pay since our insurance will not cover any of the IVF treatment.

Hi waitingwaitingwaiting,

Welcome to the boards. I sincerely hope you are not waiting for too much longer. Good luck with your May IVF cycle. I did 2 IUIs before moving to IVF. In terms of the difference-it's obviously a lot more expensive to do IVF, the drug doses are higher, and the day of transfer more invasive. Having said that the monitoring I had for IUI was the same as for my IVF cycles, and the success rates are higher for IVF. The egg collection is not too bad- the effects of the midazolam they give you as a sedative helps! Also, you get more information with an IVF cycle- like fertilization rates, embryo development, etc.

Good luck, and keep us posted re how things are going.

Thanks Eliza. My name is Julie by the way. We have the consultation appt in March. We have decided to use the same RE that we have been using because him, the other doctor's in his office & the staff are amazing. They all feel like family. How long does a typical IVF cycle last? I was told to not take BC due to a clotting factor that I have so I wouldn't think they would make me take them but I'm not sure. Maybe I will have to take them & just start the heparin early? Anyway I am extremely excited for the IVF cycle, just not the paying for it. I pray it works!

Hi Julie,

How long an IVF cycle takes depends so much on the individual + the protocol used. I was meant to do a long down regulation cycle, that should have taken approx 41 days from 1st lucrin shot to BFP. However because of multiple hiccups along the way, it took 6 weeks to get to collection. Then, because I was showing symptoms of OHSS and my progesterone was raised, the RE has said all viable embryos must be frozen. Hopefully I'll be able to do a transfer next month. With IVF- always expect the unexpected!

Hopefully your case will be a bit more straight forward!

Good luck.

Eliza.

Hi there- I am completely new to all of this and wanted to say hello! I was supposed to start my first IVF cycle this month, but because my period came early mixed with a previously planned vacation to Mexico, and not wanting to start injections in another country...we decided to wait until next month...that was a little hard. But everything happens for a reason...
So, I guess I just wanted to hear about other people's stories, get advice and helpful hints about starting this whole process.
Thanks so much!
