Any older women TTC with IVF?

I'm doing IVF for the first time within the month and I haven't seen many other geriatric women on this site (but maybe I havent looked carefully enough). I'm 39 and DH is 43. We've been TTC for about a year, and our infertility is pretty much unexplained except for the fact that we're OLD, reproductively speaking.

Me - 39, DH - 43, TTC x 1 year 1st IUI 2/16/11 with clomid & trigger shot, BFN. Skipping ahead to IVF b/c paying out of pocket & other concerns 1st IVF cycle Mar-April, 2011 (ER expected week of 4/11, ET planned 3 days later...)

You are not alone! I am 42, and married my H when I was 40. We started trying for kids about a year ago, and there is no reason for our infertility other than age. I did get PG naturally in Dec. but lost if due to a cervical ectopic PG. It was horrible. I am about to undergo my first IVF in June and am so super nervous about all the drugs and how the whole process will affect me and my DH emotionally and physically for me. UGH. I love to read these success stories. Gives me so much hope!!!

Hi there-

I wanted to give you hope as I was given hope on this same board 2 years ago when going through IVF at age 40. It can work and a geriatric age. I didn't even stimulate that well and only had 2 mature follicles but both were good eggs, fertilized and we went onto transfer them both. One took and we have a 2 year old son. Now I'm trying to conceive #2 so we'll see how that goes at age 43.

Good luck with everything. Try to stay as relaxed as you can. I didn't move off the couch for 2 days after my egg transfer.

Thanks Ann, how sweet! BTW, I'm Hillary, forgot to include that. I'm also thinking about going out of state if this one doesnt work, since there are clinics not too far away with lots better stats for women my age, and given how much i'm already spending in this process, another $300-500 aint gonna make a difference. my head is just filled with thoughts and ideas. it's pretty overwhelming actually. I'm just glad I'm not alone. :)

I'm here and you are not alone!!! I'm 41 and DH and I have been trying for over a year... We found each other late in life and got married in Nov '09 - decided we wanted to try for kids and see what happened - no pressure and if it worked, great, if it didn't then it wasn't meant to be. Well we got pg first month off BCP things seemed great, 12 weeks in I lost the baby. Missed m/c - the testing showed the baby was fine, dr didn't think I would have issues, we'll a year a month since my m/c I'm still here trying. I did 4 IUI's with no success and just did my first IVF in February - got a BFP, but my betas fell and AF showed 5 days later. We went to the RE and bascially said if we were to do another IVF, we'd probably have the same type of result with very few eggs ( only have three at retrieval and only one fertilized) and I honestly don't want to put myself and my body through that again for only one egg, when we don't know what my quality is (I have a high FSH so my ovarian reserve is low and there's not telling if I have any "good" ones left). We too are paying out of pocket so after

hey, good to hear from you! it's very exciting to see the progress you're making with the DE. I have a close girlfriend who, after 4 failed IVF cycles, went with a DE and now has a beautiful baby girl. And they have other frozen embryos from the same initial fertilization, so they are hoping to do another one in the future. BTW, she's 45.

while i hope it works for me to use my own eggs, in reading a lot of people's experiences recently, it doesnt look like too many older women are having much success with any treatments using their own eggs. maybe i'm looking at the info with a bias, and I wish I could see more positive results, but I just havent. So a DE cycle could very well be in my future. still, i havent given up yet either.

keep posting about your progress, i'd love to hear.
