Anyone do IVF overseas?

I posted this on the DE page, but thought I'd post it here because I'm wondering if any of you have tried it with your own eggs. I'm just trying to pull more information on overseas vs US IVF to figure out what our best option is. I was here in June and July with a failed IVF cycle.

Hi. I'm back and still trying to figure out a more cost-effective way to try IVF with donor eggs. It recently came to my attention that many couples go overseas for more affordable IVF tries and while it might be hard to coordinate the timing, I have to admit I'm intrigued by the idea. Any of you try this or know people that did? Have you heard positives or negatives about it? What were the countries involved? I'd love to learn more about this, but not sure I'm trusting the websites I'm finding. Thanks!

Hello Diana,
I am Erika, Caryn's friend. I am more than hapoy to share any information about our IVF abroad. It was originally DH's ceazy idea in the shower after we spent way too much on unsuccessful IUI's and tests. After a bit of research, networking and getting some references things started to look more and more doable. A fresh IVF cycle with ICSI cost $2600 plus meds. Meds (exact same products, brands) cost 30-50% at the local pharnacies compared to what we paid here. We had a great experience with the clinic, and our RE was simply amazing!!!
Our baby was born 3 weeks ago.

Caryn, I would really appreciate it if she could share her thoughts on the experience! Glad it worked for her.

I have a friend who went to Hungary for 2 IVF's. She had her baby a few weeks ago. I'll ask if she has a chance to come here and give you some thoughts. I know both of her cycles together (including the travel costs) were less than one cycle in the US.

Hey, I am Amanda and I'm from the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago). I wouldn't advise you to come to my clinic because I have two failed cycles but there is a really good clinin in Barbados. Many ppl go around the world to seek more affordable ivf treatments, they call is 'ivf vacations'. I hope you find a clinic that suits you, good luck.

Amanda

I have no personal experience but I wanted to tell you the Inspire Resolve boards have lots of girls. There is a 'seeking treatment outside the US' topic/board and they have a monthly czech mates poll. You will have to join and be a member to see most post. Some are marked 'public' but most posts are members only.

Hope that helps! :)

Sorry, that post kind of assumes every one lives in the US which I know isn't true. So let me reiterate by asking has anyone gone out of country for IVF, where have you gone, what experience did you have, do you think it's legit and worthwhile, and did you use a group or set it up yourself?

Thanks so much!
