Is anyone on the Ganirelix protocol? Past, present or current

I am just curious how many are/did take Ganirelix instead of Lupron. It seems to be a shorter protocol and I know it acts a bit differently.

Was there a reason your RE put you on Ganirelix instead of Lupron?

I am doing IVF for the first time. I am 36 (37 in November) and I had an antral follicle count of 20 in August. I think I read that they use Ganirelix for poor responders or for older women. I don't think I will be a poor responder from my count but who the heck knows. It is probably my age and I have no clue on how the quality will be. I hope good.

Does anyone know if BCP affects your antral follicle count? I will be pretty upset if my numbers decrease because of the suppression on BCP and I end up with less eggs because of it. I know the antral count is not the all be all but I read that is a good number to gauge what is possible.

I used ganirilex (antagon) in BOTH my IVF Cycles. Both Successful BFP's. I added the Ganarilex into my Follistim/Menopur injection for three nights prior to retrieval to avoid early ovulation. Most people require 4 days. I have never used Lupron, and the clinic I have been using does not. I think really..it does the same thing, it's just a different brand/Manufacturer.

I used Ganirelix, menopur (what a stingy pain!), and gonal f. I asked my RE ahead of time if I needed to go on BCP, and he said he would do a protocol that didn't need it. I used it but not with BCP. Though I am considered old for pregnancy, I was 34 when I went in and it was MF that was our issue. Anyhow, it worked fine, and my count was great (see siggy) and thus, the results as well. Gooooood Luck! Baby dust, baby dust, baby dust!

I am happy to see success stories. That is interesting that you didn't go on BCP. I am on them now until Oct 31st then I start Follistim. After that Ganirelix. It is interesting all the various medicines they can use and not everyone is on the same protocol.
