Tess did u take any bcp before hand? Im on bcp right now and will probably start my stim meds on the 10th. I was just surprised you were waiting for ur a/f to start so you could do ur check with the u/s and then would start ur stim meds so soon. I started my a/f and then had my check and u/s but they just started me on two weeks of bcp. Anyway I was just curious how ur cycle was starting. Im so anxious I just wish I could start now.

No. The doc had initially wanted to do a week of Lipton suppression but I was at the end of a last ditch effort clomid/IUI cycle so they told me to skip the Lipton and start with stims when AF shows. There are so many different protocols but I have definitely heard a lot of people talking about bcp's first.

A lot of times bcp's are used to put you on a specific schedule so that you will be starting a/f in a sort of known time frame for starting the IVF cycle. So it isn't odd to skip the bcp's if your RE didn't think you needed them for that.

I did Follistim, Menopur and Ganirelix on my third cycle (which was a BFP). Basically instead of using the Lupron to prevent ovulation, you are using Ganirelix. They do similar things but in different ways.

Good news and bad news about PIO. You will take it from the day of retrieval to the day of the beta test, so it's more like 2 weeks, unless you get pregnant. Then, you will likely take it until about 9 weeks. My OB wanted to err on the safe size, so I took it to 12 weeks. Worth it though and I'd do it again if I had to!

What is Emla? I have not heard of that.

Thanks Cilla!! Emla is a numbing cream. Hopefully it helps cause I'm a bit of a wimp with needles.

I never used that. I am a big wimp with needles too!!

I'll tell you something that my DH suggested and it really helped me. I didn't think I would be able to inject myself with any shots. I can't even look at needles in the dr's office! So DH suggested that I get one of the smaller needles (the subcutaneous ones) and practice with it. I used a little rubber toy (like a stress ball) and stuck the poor pig over and over. Until I could do it without too much trouble. Then when it came time to do it myself, I got everything ready, pinched up the skin, positioned the needle, closed my eyes and said "it's the pig, it's the pig!" And did it!! LOL! I was so proud of myself. I literally had been in tears at the thought of giving myself shots and I did it! If I could do it, I know you can make it through!!

Hi all - I am stalking you from the January board. I want to see those Feb BFPs.

Tess - I had a simular protocol. I took BCP, Follistim, Ganerelix, HCG shot & progesterone in oil. The shots were not as bad as I thought. The progesterone in oil (PIO) isn't that bad. I ice it before hand and have DH massage the area a bit after
