Our u/s today went great! We got to see our beautiful baby! It was so awesome! We got to see and hear the heatbeat. The doctor said it couldn't look any better. I feel so happy and relieved we have made it to this point. We have been trying and waiting for so long it seems.

The total cost came up around $6600.

That included $2600 we paid to the clinic (after embryo transfer, that was nice!).

Meds were around $1200 (I received some donations, some I purchased here and some over there for %50 compared to local specialty pharmacies). I made a huge effort on trying to find resources and minimize this cost.

Travel was around $2800 for both of usincluding flights, our stay and meals.

The clinic was an overall very nice and welcoming environment. Most of the staff we got to interact with spoke ok English. 90% of the time we had our RE present, he did all the screening tests, consultations. We had a consult following every appointment to talk through that particular step, results, numbers, next procedures. That was very reassuring. He was a great coach and always available when we were at the clinic.

I am so sorry that you didn't get good news, either.

Another thing that I have read about that is lower cost is mini IVF (or minimal stimulation IVF). You get fewer eggs, but they are supposed to have a higher pregnancy rate/egg (so better quality). I know a couple of women who have done it.

Wow! That is way less than we paid for a single cycle! How much was the travel cost and how long did you stay? Were there any language difficulties?

Ha! Caryn. It was actually Hungary, but yes, IVF abroad was our only chance at affordable ART. We had a wonderful experience, and what sounded like DH's craziest idea in the shower, it turned out something very doable, a great experience and a successful IVF cycle helping us to become parents. Our son is 6 months old this month :)

IFV #1 failed due to a rare side effect of FSH stims (I am one of the few patients who gets LPD when on FSH stims) - otherwise we had nice embryology results on that cycle, too. We did ICS and natural fertilization 50-50%. IVF#2 was repeated with the same protocol, only we switched progesterone vaginal supplements to PIO shots. Success!

Our IVF with ICSI cycle was $2600 plus meds. Same brand meds, similar protocols, same state-of-the-art ART technology. IVF abroad is totally doable. Let me know if you have any questions! erika
