FET questions

Hi Ladies,

Old timer here, although I haven't been on the boards lately due to my 8 month old IVF miracle #1 taking up most of my time, but as I start thinking about round 2 I have some questions that I thought I would ask and try and get some advice.

For those of you who don't remember my story, DH has MFI (azoospermia).  After 2 years of seeing dr's, a miscarriage, and 3 IVF's we were finally blessed with our DD.  (IVF #1 cancelled due to non-viable sperm, IVF #2 miscarried at 10 weeks, and IVF #3 DD (yay!!)). It was a long and difficult road, but we thankfully did not give up!!

Because of the MFI, DH has had multiple sperm extractions (TESE's), which although it works, it doesn't produce the most healthiest sperm (which therefore not producing the best embryo's).  We use ICSI, but the fertilization report generally isn't all that great - last time we only had 3 eggs fertilize.  (2 were transferred and resulted in DD, and the other is frozen).  We also have 3 vials of sperm frozen, because DH now has a good amount of scar tissue that doesn't make another TESE probable)

Here is my question...  (and I will ask me RE as well, but just thought I'd get some thoughts here)...  Should I just try the FET with the one embryo, hope it makes it thru the defrost, and keep my fingers crossed, or should I go thru the stimulation, try and get a few more embryo's just incase the defrost doesn't go in our favor?

Any thoughts/advice?  Any positive stories of a 1 embryo FET?

Good Luck to everyone!!  Always stay positive and know that miracles DO happen!!

Our situation was different, but I would say go for the FET first. With a LO around it is SO MUCH easier than stimming. I did not use BCPs or patches, just estrogen pills (cheap) and then PIO started just before transfer. Total cost from start to finish with RE was around $2500 (I had insurance so I didn't pay even this much).

I transferred one and got a vivacious DD.

Successful 1 5-day embryo journey here!!! My little 10-month old is my 'lucky' guy (for those that remember me)!!

One round of IVF due to MFI as well though my hubby did have 1 million swimmers so I cant relate on the sperm issue just volume -- my stim round resulted with 3 5-day blastocyst: 1 embryo transferred in fresh (m/c at 8 weeks) and only 1 embie survived to freezing -- my clinic gave us a 86% thaw rate with a 60% pregnancy rate -- so our one and only FET cycle with 1 embryo worked!! You only need one all around....egg, sperm, embie

Go for it!!!!

Is it a day 5 embie? I don't have a story of a successful 1 embie FET, but I transferred 2 5 day embies and got pregnant with twins---kind of the same thing, right? Ignoring the whole two baby thing. :) I'd ask the doc for the thaw rate. It all depends on how picky they are about what they freeze and really varies greatly from place to place.

Hey Jennifer, sorry to hijack your thread, I really hope you get your second miracle with your last embie, but I have a question for Jerrae. My dh has severe oligospermia and I'm worried about him not having any viable sperm on the ER day and my RE said that with his low count they might not be able to freeze his sperm. Also that if he doesn't have any we'll have to use a second ejaculate or do

Me - (Amanda 27) My dh-- 26 We have been ttc # 1 for 3yrs 5mths My dh has severe oligospermia, Ivf with icsi is our only option. Ivf # 1--- failed Ivf # 2--- failed Ivf # 3-- hopefully in March 2013 at a new clinic!
