I was very nervous for my 1st retrieval, but I have to say, it is a breeze - I actually kind of enjoyed it because the anesthesia is so relaxing. My advice would be to relax as much as possible and meditate. You will go in, wait around, they'll bring you into the retrieval room, stick you with a needle for the anesthesia, and the next thing you know, you'll have apple juice and graham crackers in front of you. The nap you'll have later will be amazing and I was told to eat chips and drink gatorade. It was a great day!

Thank you! I feel better already. I'm very much ready for a change from three shots a night for stims (Menopur - ouch; Follistim and Ganorelix)!

Hey Ashnyc, I agree with chi_gal, the ER is a breeze. Just try to remain relaxed and carry some pads incase you have slight bleeding afterwards. I'm not sure if your clinic provides a snack after so be sure to take something with you because you'll be so hungry. Good luck on Thursday!

Hey there! I am having my next retrieval 2morrow morning.... and trust me..it's something to be more excited about than nervous! I actually have major issues with Anesthesia myself....but have managed to take these retrievals EASILY. You really do kind of drift off and then wake up. They say...Good Morning we retrieved XXX eggs! LOL.

You will be tired, and you will want one of more npas throughout the day. I have never experienced the nausea and severe pain they sometimes warn us of...and I don;t take the pain meds (this is just MY preference...there is NOTHING wrong with taking them!).

You will feel sme cramping...maybe very slight. You will feel heavy in the gut..and some pressure when you are up walking around. In general..It IS a brreze and you will have the pep back in your step before you know it!!

Drink PLENTY of water the night before...... Stay hydrated until you aren't allowed to eat and drink. I never had any spotting from the ET...but some pople say they will bring a Pantiliner..just in case. Wear COMFY clothes...NO perfume..NO scented lotions!

Good Luck! I am in the August Cycler board...... but will keep my eyes on this one as well to see how you do and how many eggies (follies) they were able to retrieve!

Happy to report I made it through my first ER and it was indeed not so bad - and I know the helpful words here helped ensure that was the case! Recovery process today was pretty smooth - minimal pain so far, a lovely two hour nap and haven't picked up the blackberry for work all day. Results come tomorrow!

A little discouraged by the results so far... 5 eggs - 3 of which were immature - ending up with one embryo out of the two others with ICSI. They'll try to mature the immature eggs in the lab, and if that works, try fertilization. Will know more on how that goes tomorrow, but as of now, one embryo. Transfer still sched for Sunday... Need some good news!!

I really wasn't sure what to expect and am not quite sure if I should be as discouraged as I am, but hopefully that one is REALLY determined!

I know you are disappointed to only have 1 (so far), but I'm hoping that they are able to do something with the immature ones ... I wasn't aware that something could be done to make them mature, but you may get something more from that.
