Hi & welcome to the board.

I know how frustrating it is to have failed an IVF cycle. Sometimes no matter what, even with perfect embryos, there is still that element of chance that it won't take. I am really sorry you had to go through this. Sometimes a first IVF turns out to be a learning experience in how your body responds and there are different protocols or changes to protocols that can help with subsequent cycles.

Is there a reason you think you might have better results in another clinic?

First off, congrats! She is GORGEOUS! I have a border line AMH, but given all other tests my RE is not concerned. I had 12 antral follicles at the start of this cycle. I am not sure what that means. I have a consult soon, but have been in touch with my RE throughout the cylce. She was VERY pleased. I will see if she wants to change anything. Thanks for your support. I started acupuncture about 7 weeks ago...will continue with it :) God Bless you.

I tend to agree with Caryn...When you have a clinic that you really like, and are comfortable with...it CAN be worth it to stay with them. Often times, the failures are not due to the clinic or staff....but just chance. However..there ARE clinics that DO carry higher success rates. You don;t want to be in a clinic where they treat you like a number..versus a PATIENT that they genuinely care about. The staff at MY clinic..though it is one of the most successful in NC..... treats me like FAMILY....and they KNOW me.

They may need to change your protocol some. My initial thoughts...and I AM NO Doctor..is that is your FSH is good..and your AMH (Egg reserve) is good..you should have had MORE eggs produced from your cycle..... based on your age. I was 37 when we did our first IVF......and we got 17 eggs. Transferred three..and all three took. We got 17 eggs again at age 39..but the quality was poor...and though we got PG...we miscarried. We also used ICSI..AND assisted Hatching. For us...it worked...every time.

IVF is a gamble..... and one we are all willing to take! Though the failurres are a HARD hurdle to overcome....it makes us MORE determined..AND exeprienced in what works, or doesn't for us. This group of women on this board will be a wealth of advice and support. We have ALL been there..done that. We cry for each other's failures, and Celebrate BFP's!!!

Keep us posted on your pursuit. We are here if you need us.

I dont know why I never joined before BUT I am so glad I did. No one in my life gets what I am going through as much as they want to.

I felt the same way, I should have had more eggs... I am going to bring that up with my RE. I think it's a numbers game. :(

Thank you for your support and I will keep you posted!

Godd Bless you!

Thank you! She is a miracle and I am thankful every, single day =)

If I were you I'd do some reading before your consult. That way you can be armed with questions and potential things you may want to do. I find this site very helpful for protocol information, http://www.advancedfertility.com/ivfstim.htm.

An antral follicle count of 12 is decent. Here is some information on AFC's, http://www.advancedfertility.com/antralfollicles.htm. My guess is that you are dealing with slight egg issues given the results from your first IVF. The number of eggs was less than ideal and so was the number of eggs to fertilize. But it could have just been the protocol...I agree with the PP that small tweaks can make a big difference.

Sometimes there's no answers for why a cycle didn't work so my focus would be on the future. My initial questions for your doc at your appointment would be:
- What protocol changes would you like to make if we do another round?
- Would a more aggressive protocol like a flare or antagonist protocol be indicated?
- Do you think I'm a candidate for DHEA therapy to help with egg quality? (this would likely need blood work to tell you if you were)

I think it's great that you started acupuncture. I did it before my cycle and while I'm sure it wasn't THE thing that made it work it certainly did help my stress levels =)

Good luck!!!

Thank you. I did have an antagonist protocol. 300 gonal f,150 menoupor, gainirelix for four days. I think the icsi was not necessary and hurt my other 3 eggs. While they fertilized with icsi, I find it interesting that the 2 IVF ones were the transfers. My husband has awesome sperm. Dr did it to hedge our bets she said. I think my eggs aren't that great either...but I hope I got a good one in there. :) what is dhea?

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that. You are a sweetheart.

Hi,

similar stories? I could just just (and I did) copy paste your story and do my minimal modifications. I was also in your shoes (after a textbook looking, but yet failed IVF#1) just around 1.5 year ago, and early this month my son turned 6 month old :) So here is our story:

We were both 34 when started TTC, FSH good, unexpalined infertility. SA checks out, etc etc...
