Hemorrhagic Bleeding

I got a BFP on a HPT a little over 2 weeks ago and had great betas after that. This past Sunday (5w4d) I was having some cramping and then when I stood up after a short drive I felt a gush. I ran into the bathroom and blood poured into the toilet.

I'm very lucky that my mom is an ultrasound tech and she was able to do an ultrasound right away. We were all shocked to see that the ultrasound looked perfectly normal. We were not able to see a heartbeat but my mom did not expect to this early. The bleeding stopped completely after about 2 hours and I have not had anymore since and have been on bedrest since.

My question is, has anyone else had this? What was the outcome? Does anyone know the cause?

My mom agreed to do another ultrasound on Friday and I have a follow up ultrasound with my IVF dr on Monday. We are hoping to see a heartbeat and all of this will come down to one horrible day and nothing more.

TIA!

I've heard of this happening to others, Rachael, I think it's a very good sign that you haven't had any bleeding since.  Sending you lots of P&PTs, please keep us posted.

Sorry for the bleeding, I know it's super scary after all you've been through to get here.  Bleeding in the 1st trimester is very common, like in about 25% of naturally conceived pregnancies and even higher percentages in IVF pregnancies.  I've see a lot of people on this board report this type of bleeding and everything turns out just fine.  As an extra precaution I'd try to put your feet up as much as you can and stay very hydrated until everything can be checked out by your doc on Monday.  Please keep us posted, good luck!!!

I had a subcorionic hematoma and had exact same thing at 6 weeks then again at 10. I spotted daily until about 15 weeks. My twins are 25 weeks now and no problems, but I was convinced we lost at least one both times. FYI, my doc said if you bleed once, you are much more likely to bleed again. So don't be surprised if it happens again!

Jamie- Thank you so much for letting me know about the chance of bleeding again. I had not heard this before and I would defenitly have been upset to see more bleeding not knowing.

I had an ultrasound on Thanksgiving (yay for moms who are ultrasound techs!) and another one today with my RE. Both ultrasounds look good with bmps of 119 and 123 respectively. My only concern is that the baby is measuring 6w1d when I am 6w5d. The doctor was not overly concerned, but I was hoping for a perfect ultrasound today. I know my son measured a few days behind at first but quickly caught up.

Does 4 days seem like a lot?

Happy everything is looking good!!!  My RE and OB said that measuring within a week is totally normal.  This early on a measurement is so hard to take.  If it's off my even 1mm it makes a huge difference in dating the pregnancy.  Strong heart beats are all you can hope for at this point and it sounds like you have two of those =)
