January Cyclers - Come out and play...

I don't think we have an official January Cyclers Club so I will start a thread. I know a bunch of us were kinda in the December group (winter cyclers) but I thought I still would do one for our January ladies.

My info:
I am Christy and just turned 37 and DH is 42. We have been trying for our first since 2006 and finally went to the RE in 2010. (I know, we should have went sooner but DH wanted things to happen naturally). Since 2010, I had one ectopic on my first IUI and 5 BFN IUIs so I am onto IVF. There were a few delays and I am finally ready to start my first IVF cycle. Thank goodness!!!

I was totally disappointing by my first "real" ultrasound to check the follicle growth. A few months back, during my saline sonogram, I had 20 antral follicles which is a good number especially for someone my age (37). I went into the appointment expecting to see at least 15 but was shocked when he only found 6. I just couldn't believe it. I asked him why it was so low when my antral follicle count was higher. He said it is possible that some are hiding and hopefully we can see more on Friday when I go in for my next scan. I am already on a higher dose of Follistim (325 units) and my RE wants to increase it to 425 units until Friday. I am really not sure why I am not responding like I should. I know, in TTC years I am an old maid but still....... My blood work (estradiol) came back at 98 which is a bit low. I asked the nurse about that and she said it is ok with the number of follicles I have (so far). Yesterday was my 4th follistim shot.

I'm sorry your first scan was disappointing :( It's still early though...hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised at Friday's scan!

Update: I had a scan first thing this morning (back home, thank God!) that showed 7 follies on my right, ranging from 8-12mm (plus 4 less than or equal to 6mm) and 8 on my left ranging from 8-14mm (and another 4 less than or equal to 6mm). The nurse said that she'd guess I'll have 12 mature ones by ER if none of the smaller ones catch up...but she also said that it's still possible for others to catch up and end up with more than 12 at ER. I asked her if she'd be ok with 12 since she said they typically aim for 14-16 any given cycle, and she said yes that would be fine.

No changes in my meds, so I continue as-is until my next scan Thursday morning. She's still estimating ER to be Sunday-Monday-ish so I hope that's how it ends up...strictly for selfish reasons :smileyhappy: Sunday would be super awesome since DH and I would not have to take time off work. Monday would be fine too since DH doesn't work on Mondays, so he wouldn't have to take that day off. My work is nicer about taking time off than DH's work is, so I'm ok with taking whatever time off that I need.

I am so looking forward to this...I bought the comfiest pair of yoga pants and zip up sweatshirt specifically for my "ER Day Outfit". I'm such a dork, but it really excites me! I still can't believe how fast this is all happening.

Christy:

Take a Deep Breath.....as I always say, They have ALWAYS retrieved MORE eggs from me than were ever "seen" on the scans. My first IVF was at 37 years old...and on top of the 225..then 325 units of follistim...I also mized it into 75iu of Menopur. Are you using Menopur??

You know...you KNOW....that quantity isn't the most important thing...it's QUALITY. Let's just say that your numbers are pretty good compared to some....who get 1-3 follies at ER. You are IN GOOD FORM.....and it has only been 3-4 days of stimming! My first IVF..I stimmed for 9 days. The second one...11!! On Friday, I think you may be more assured that you are right on track. Keep your chin up girl..... it DOES only take one egg. But I know it is noce to have a "meaty" selection to choose from. And some to freeze! It WILL be OK.....

Let us know if you need us to pick you up. I know alot of IVF jokes......LOL

Jamie:

12 is a fabulous number!! That is potentially 6 sets of twins in your future!! LOL

ER is a breeze...I hope it falls on Sunday....but that would hinge on your trigger being Frday night! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks Lindz. I am not on menopur. What does that do? I am going to keep plugging away and hope for the best. I start ganerelix tomorrow and hopefully that injection is as easy as follistim. Things are busy at work which is a good thing so i don't obsess about ivf.
