January Cyclers - Come out and play...

I don't think we have an official January Cyclers Club so I will start a thread. I know a bunch of us were kinda in the December group (winter cyclers) but I thought I still would do one for our January ladies.

My info:
I am Christy and just turned 37 and DH is 42. We have been trying for our first since 2006 and finally went to the RE in 2010. (I know, we should have went sooner but DH wanted things to happen naturally). Since 2010, I had one ectopic on my first IUI and 5 BFN IUIs so I am onto IVF. There were a few delays and I am finally ready to start my first IVF cycle. Thank goodness!!!

Ladies, my E2 levels are suddenly borderline too high and tomorrow's blood draw results hinges whether or not this cycle gets cancelled :( See the post I wrote in the folder below...any words of encouragement/advice? I am FREAKING OUT.

Wait...WHAT??

Ok, OK...where is this folder?

If they are borderline....... And you are set to trigger tommorrow night for a Monday Retrieval...can't they just DO IT??? It's not like your levels are THRU the roof!??

I'd freak out too.... and demand a recount!! Maybe you shold have JUST done the ganirilex (antagon) tonight to keep from Ovulating and skipped the Follistim...to keep the E2 at bay..then triggered 2morrow night for Monday....

Let us know what happens tomorrow...Good LUCK...I PRAY they don;t cancel on you!

Jamie - WHAT? I will check out the other post.....
My news probably isn't any better...

I had my second scan today and the results are still not ideal. There is a good chance that my IVF cycle will be cancelled but I could convert to an IUI which still could result in a pregnancy.

Last time, I had 6 follicles all under 8 mm.

Good News:

Sorry...it was below in the "In A Cycle & IVF Questions" folder. Here's a link:
http://forums.ivillage.com/t5/In-a-Cycle-IVF-Questions/Uh-oh-possible-IVF-cancellation/m-p/118745231/message-uid/118745231#U118745231

Basically, my E2 levels as of this morning were a little over 4,100. We have another draw and scan tomorrow morning, and after my convo with the IVF coordinator today, how or whether this cycle continues hinges on what the blood draw reveals. Tonight, they had me not do Follistim and only do 1/2 a vial of Menopur instead of a full vial.

Sigh.

Christy, what is this, Bad News Friday?!?!?

Sorry you received not so great news today, too. What a craptastic day!

Jamie - you are right about the craptastic day. I know it totally sucks to even think about cancelling a cycle. One thing you have for you that I don't is the number of eggs. I'm sure they will still do the ER and they can make lots of babies!! I know it sucks thinking about a FET but you woud have embies to put back. (I am still hoping things will go fine and you will do your ER and ET without getting OHSS).

Christy:

In my second IVF cycle...I had quite a few "smaller" follicles and a few that were bigger that they actually thought might gt TOO big to use. They increased my Follistim to "encourage" the others to catch up...have they altered your dose at all? It worked for me when they did. The others did get to a useable size..and even though I had LESS mature follies from the 17 they retrieved..I did get a BFP from the 2 good ones they put in.

I HATE all this talk of "cancelling" cycles..... Mt RE almost never does that. My girlfriend who went through IVF at the same time as us...had TWO....yes, just TWO follicles. They went ahead a retrieved the two, fetilized them.....and she DID get PG with a singleton. Her DD. They just repeated IVF when DD turned 1. and again...ONLY 2 follicles. And yes...she is PG again...with another singleton. I don;t get WHY these RE's just want to cancel or convert to IUI. Let's admit it...NONE OF US trust IUI much..if we did.....we would just DO IUI's..versus IVF!!! They cost less! But the return stats are not as good.

Can you just INSIST your proceed.....even if it means you ONLY 2-4 follies?? AND.....ask about a dosage increase.

I hate this for you and Jamie....... But you aren't OUT OF THE GAME......so keep your chin up! Ok??

Hello - I'm checking in from the December group and I'm so sorry to hear things aren't going well for Christy and Jamie!

Christy - I totally agree with Lindsay about pushing to continue the IVF - assuming money and limited insurance coverage aren't eliminating factors. I only had 1 mature and 1 intermediate at ER, and we got one perfect embryo out of those. Maybe one or more of your smaller follies could mature overnight in the petri dish, fertilize, and be THE ONE(S).

Even though I got a BFN, I don't regret pushing through at all. I feel like nothing ventured, nothing gained - esp. since (like yours) my RE doesn't think I'll produce many more eggs in future cycles. (Crusty eggs suck!)

When dealing with IF, we have to work with what we've got and focus on quality over quantity - and I've heard success stories from cycles that seemed like everything was going wrong. You never know unless you try, right?

Thinking of you both and hoping for the best!
