Ok, so I'm really curious about how everyone handles this!  We are hopefully preparing for an IVF in Feb. and I am petrified that my husband will not be able to perform on the day of the retreival.  He often has performance anxiety and always has produced at home for SA's and our previous IUI's.  The IVF will be done at a new clinic about an hour away and clearly producing at home is not an option.  Do all clinics allow freezing ahead of time for those situations?  Any words of advice on how NOT to be a control freak about this?!

Me (36) DH (38)- me-unexplained IF/hypothyroid -DH-counts good, but volume is low; Married in 2006, off birth control pill. Started officially trying in March of 2009.
2 rounds clomid/ovidrel 2009, 1 round femara/iui, 2010, 2 rounds follistim/iui 2010. Weight loss surgery 2011.  Back to new RE 2012: HSG normal, AMH 0.43= DOR; IVF with microdose flare protocol in February 2013.

If you both want some reassurance I know clinics are ok with freezing samples ahead of time.  I'd also encourage him to find some materials (either magazines or videos he could load on his phone or ipad) that he finds stimulating.  The stuff available at some RE's isn't great. I think it's a very common concern, for both partners.

Thanks Caryn. I was already planning on having him bring the iPad, but even at home it's not a guaruntee that he can finish so i'm feeling more comfortable with the freezing just in case option. Hopefully my RE will be good with that. :)

Hi, I know someone already mentioned freezing some sperm ahead of time as a back-up.  Another suggestions is to rent a hotel room close by so that it's in a more comfortable and less stressful environment.  Also, you can ask the office to schedule the retrieval AFTER he delivers the sample.  Our clinic agreed to do this.  This way, you can go in the room with him to help.  We always find that using the MFP (Male Factor Pack) is much easier because he can deliver the sample while having sex.
