I have been a lurker for years and need some advice. I am 36, DH 41, TTC for 13 years. We have been through 5 IVF cycles, and prior to this multiple IUI's. The 1st 2 cycles were cancelled due to poor response (1 follie). I found a new doctor and have done 3 IVF cycles with a different protocol (estrogen 1mg for 3 months prior to starting cycle). I am considered a poor responder. The first IVF cycle with new doctor I went in for the ER, IV was started, and they realized I had already ovulated (5 follies), 2cnd IVF I had 5 follies retrieved, 2 fertilzed, none transferred.
My most recent cycle was just in April and May 2011. I had 6 follies retrieved, 5 fertilized, 3 transferred (the other 2 did not make it past the 4 cell stage). This was much unexpected and a far better outcome! I took DHEA for the past several months prior to (although the doctor does not feel this made any difference). I had a good 1st Beta of 43. 2cnd Beta revealed an "occult pregnancy". I saw my doctor today. He said I can try IVF again, since this last cycle was a much better outcome. He said that 2 of the embryos transferred were Grade 1, and 1 was Grade 2, which he said overall was really good. He suspects that the one was normal enough to start to attach, but did not continue due to genetically abnormal due to my age. My options are to try IVF again, or donor egg. We are not sure if my husband's sperm can penetrate my eggs, since I have so few to retrieve they have all gone through ICSI. It's been a long, painful journey. Need some advice!
