An IVF research study found that there was no benefit in transferring more than two embryos, even women over 40 had the same live birth rate as if only two embryos were transferred:

It was very interesting reading an article about this study. There was an statement that we see more people in the US doing multiple embryos because so many are self-pay and feel we have to take every chance that we could to try to get a baby and as it turns out, the live birth rate is lower because of the risk of triplets. It's one of my soapbox items, but how about insurance companies actually providing coverage. Less risky for Mom and babies, plus you'd probably see higher success rates because it would take one stress factor out of the equation.
