It's hard to be happy you're pregnant when all you can think of is how sore your butt is, huh?:) Try heat, either a heating pad a hot water bottle, something to increase circulation. You know, in with the good, out with the bad. Use the heat as much as possible, like 5 times/day, including a shower or bath. I'm in IVF #1, still on suppresion, but I'm a CNM and I reccommend heat for my patients with sore or swollen areas. My friend told me her RE had her sit on a heating pad after every progesterone shot to prevent those welts!

I was soooo scared too, my tubes were my problem too...the first appt was the scariest for me I think. But I will tell you as much as I can before my boss comes first started on birth control and had to take an HSG, which was very uncomfoprtable, but remember its all worth it! Then once I started my period I started Lupron shots in my leg, they really dont hurt at all, my son gave them to me, he is 7 and enjoyed being included in hte whole process. Then you will need to start on the Follisten and Repronex injections, this is an whole nother ball game, they hurt...the medicine hurts going in! but its ALL worth it! (I am going to really reinforce because it seems you read so many horror stories and failure stories its easy to loose hope) anyway, I had to go to the doctor every day and/or every other day followed by the retrieval where you are under anesthsia, and that was pretty easy, then the transfer when they put everything back in you. I think the hardest thing for me has been swelling and bloating and major gas pains, that you cant pass. I dont know I felt so uncomfortable I never went back down to my normal size. The progesterone makes me a lttle cranky, but other then that I had no side effects from the meds, other then being sleepy. I guess every womans story is different, it is stressful, and sometimes very uncomfoprtable as far as all the shots, but well worth it when you are seeing your belly grow

Hi Kelly,

I am pregnant and still on Progesterone. The only thing that has helped me is icing the area then heat. Otherwise, I have red sore areas too and bumps everywhere. My Dr says that they will eventually go away.

That's the best advise I can pass on.

How many weeks are you? I am 6 weeks according to the pregnancy calendar, but 4 weeks from date of transfer. We get our first u/s this Thursday.

that is the best I can say. I had the same issue, I am now weaning off progesterone pills. I am one pill a day but thinking next week I will be off them completely and i am nervous as all ....

Good luck

Hi -

I too am having the worst problem with the injections. I have large, red welts that burn and itch. My dr switched me to a different oil base. I was taking sesame oil and they switched me to cottonseed oil. Seems to help so far. I am also 5 1/2 weeks along LMP. My ultrasound is on the 2nd. This is my 2nd attempt. I mc'd my first attempt in Feb. Can't wait for Tuesday to come around.

Congratulations - this is great news. I'm on the 2ww - after 2nd IVF transfer. I don't do the Beta until next Tuesday (9/2) and am basically going crazy waiting.

I'm on progesterone in oil shots - the first time we did them - they were awful. This time around they seem somewhat better .I'm still welting - but the actual injection isn't hurting as much. You may want to check the angle you are using on the injection - hopefully a DH or someone is helping you. The needle is shaped like a pie-wedge if you look at it closely. The larger area should be at the bottom the shorter area should be at the top when you do the injection. I found if he goes very slow after the pull back it only burns a little. Also - are you learning on something when you are getting the shot. I prop pillows on the bed and lean over them with my waist at about 65degree angle - that also streaches teh muscles a little and helps. I was told you could take benadryl - but now that you are pregnant - I wouldn't think you would want to do this.

Just heat and ice -and keep switching sides, Take care and best wishes.

Also- if you have a moment - what did you feel your last 5 days before your beta? I don't feel anything - just twinges so I'm still hopeful. I have had no implantation bleeding - but I hear not everyone does. On the first IVF cycle - I really knew at day four after the transfer that I wasn't pregnant - I don't feel that this time. Any advice on coping is very welcome. I want to graduate with the rest of you....Take care and good luck.
