OK so two failed IVFs later and moving to RMA NJ. Dr suggests genetic testing (Cost is HIGH $4500) due to past failed cycles (each cycle transfered 2 day 3 embryos - very nice looking). My issue - egg quality.
My concerns --- the cost is very high and we cannot afford to do this and then move on to egg donation. I also worry the embryos can be damaged during PGD.
If we are left with only one or two embryos by day 5...I think we are going to skip the testing. We have been tested for all the genetic conditions out there and all is ok... I know that does not mean we are risk free but I am only 34.
Thoughts???? Doesn't it seem like overkill if we only have two embryos?? I think so... but if we have 4 or more it makes sense to do it.
I actually do not think our embryos will even make it to day 5 but hoping the RMA lab can get some to transfer. We will see if they are as good as they say... I hope so.

Congrats Lindsay.. just because i am curious, do you know how many of your 7 abnormal embryos made it to the blast stage.
Like in Lindsay's case, if you have a lot of eggs. the genetic testing is well worth it. The testing helps determine the best embryo's to put back. If you only have 3 or 4 embryo's, to start with, i don't think its worth the money.

I know PGD works well for some but if I had to do it over again, I would have skipped the PGD. Growing to day 5 weeds out most of the embryos that would never have resulted in a baby. I had 38 embryos (from 4 IVF cycles) that looked perfect on day 3 but only 12 were good enough on day 5 to transfer. My RE says only 1/3 of embryos typically make it to day 5 and that we can assume the ones that didn't grow well were abnormal.
Also when you do PGD testing, sometimes they get either a partial or NO reading on the embryo so you spend the $$$ but have no answers. I did day 5 testing on 7 embryos and only got results on 4 of them, the other 3 embryos came back with no results.
I spent over 11 thousand dollars on embryo freezing, biopsy and testing and in hindsight the money would have been better spent on another cycle.

New to this board, but want to thank you for your stories. I came here to post this exact question! It sounds like PGD is recommended if you have a LOT of embryos, but not for just a few. The natural selection stance makes perfect sense too, and I hadn't thought about it from that viewpoint.
So, thank you to all of you! I think you've helped me make up my mind, and hope to sway my DH too.
