Hello all. My DH and I have finally decided to look into doing IVF. Let me give you some quick background on us.

TTC#1 since Oct 2001, have PCOS, DH has great swimmers, ovulated on 100mg Clomid (3 cycles - 1 time with IUI) but thinned lining so moved to Tamoxifen, O'd on Tamoxifen 60 mg - got pg - had a m/c at 5w2d, back on Tamoxifen for 2 cycles with no luck. After 2 failed cycles following the m/c, he wanted to get back together to discuss our options. That discussion is planned for Thursday morning.

I am here looking for any info you ladies might have. Questions I should ask? Things I should consider. Your experiences with IVF...anyone with PCOS particularly. You ladies are going through all of this, so I know you are best place to come for info. Any help/advice you can give will be very appreciated.

Hi Robin~ Welcome!!

Fellow PCOS'er here~I have a DD from my 2nd IVF back in 2000. I am currently TTC#2. Has your RE discussed using metformin in your cycles? There are studies showing that metformin helps to reduce M/C as well help w/ PCOS. Good luck w/ your appt & keep us posted!

Thanks Julie...My RE did check my insulin, and based on the results determined I would likely not benefit from Metformin. I will bring it up to him again if it can also help reduce m/c. Let's see what he has to say.

Any advice regarding IVF?

Robin

Hi Robin. My name is Amy and I also have PCOS. I tried Clomid and IUI but never o'd. I did IVF for the first time in Oct and was pg w/twins but unfortunatly lost them to an infection in Feb. I responded very well to drugs and the dr was able to retreive 22 mature eggs. I used Lupron, Repronex, and Gonal F but very small doses. Ask your RE how often you will be monitored once you start your stimulating meds and how many patients he or she has treated with PCOS. Some people (like me) with PCOS respond very well to small amounts of drugs and can hyperstimulate quickly. If you hyperstim the dr may tell you to stop the cycle and start over. That is frustrating!! Ask you re how they will try to avoid hyperstimming (sometimes they just can't avoid it). I am lucky because my RE is very good with PCOS patients and is very patient when it comes to trying to get me to respond without going overboard. Here is a book that I really like. It tells you everything you need to know. In Vitro Fertilization The ART of Making Babies by Geoffrey Sher MD, Virginia Marriage Davis RN MN, and Jean Stoess MA. Good Luck!
