Anyone know much about Gluten allergy?

So now we are thinking Maddie might have a Gluten allergy rather than a milk allergy. We stopped all milk and her problem continues so we are keeping a food diary and noticed that yesterday she had 5 loose stools in one day and the only constant for that day was bread. I hope we find the problem soon, this poor kid is in the bathroom almost every two hours! Last night she was even up after I put her to bed. We'll keep the food diary for a few more days then see what the doctor says. I'm at a loss as to what to feed her if she has this allergy, since it seems like lots of stuff must have Gluten in it!

I don't know much about Gluten allergy, but I did know a lady with it and she had to be very careful of what she ate, because like you said there are many foods with gluten in it. She had to make her own gluten free bread. Poor Maddie, she must be miserable. I hope you find out what is affecting her this way. Great idea to keep a food diary!! KUP on how she is doing! Hugs to you both!

Beth -

I am gluten intolerant and have been on a strict gluten-free diet for years.

Beth, I feel so bad for Maddie, sounds like she's probably feeling miserable.

Thanks everyone! We have not been to the doctor yet but I do plan on getting her there soon for a checkup. The situation has suddenly gotten better, so I'm not sure what has been going on. Last night she had a normal firm stool!!!! Her first in like over a month! I have NO IDEA what we did different, her diet is unchanged from before. So now I am wondering if perhaps it was a bug or a parasite???? We do have a cat and a dog, maybe she picked something up from them??? The whole thing is very strange, so we'll continue to monitor and see what happens. At this point based on what I've read I am not thinking gluten or milk allergy any more, her poos are not super runny, just loose and there is no pain or vomiting with them. I did read online that applesauce and banannas and rice are good things to eat to firm up the stools, so I've told Maddie I want her to eat a bananna and some applesauce every day. Also to take her vitamin with iron in it - I know iron makes me constipated, so maybe it will help her!

I will keep you updated, maybe someday we'll get the answer to this mystery!

Hugs

Beth
