Temper Tantrums in public!

We have had a problem with Brie throwing fits in public lately! They are usually over very small things. She threw a fit at the library on Thursday because our magazine changed subscriptions to the next age up and she isn't happy about it. Then she threw a fit at my nephew's baptism. It seems that if we are out in public, there is guaranteed to be a meltdown of toddler proportions. I thought we were past this stage. How do you deal with meltdowns in public?

Maddie has not done this in a long time thank goodness! She went through a stage when she was 2-3 that it happened a lot and if I was alone with her in a store I would put everything down and leave with her. If DH was with me he'd take her out to the car. Her worse one was in the grocery store once, she was having a fit and this old lady came up to her and got right in her face and hissed "Shhhhhh!!" I was sooooo mad! I know Maddie was loud but the last thing you need is interference, ya know?
I hope things get better for you soon, maybe she is tired when this happens? I know Maddie is a little stinker when she's worn out.

Thanks Melissa. I am going to try that next time. Hopefully getting her thinking about better choices will diffuse the fit!
Thanks Beth. I would have been frustrated at that lady too! Grr! Usually she is tired, but we really would like her to learn a little self control. I guess it is just a process. I hope things get better soon too, I could pull my hair out some days. It seems everything is a battle with her lately!
