Wait till you hear this craziness!

So I already posted about the recital fees for Maddie's gymnastics recital. Well the next day at school the grandmother of one of the little girls in Maddie's class, who is also the receptionist at the dance school, stopped me on the way in and said she really needed to talk to me.

Here is what she told me:

#1 - the owner of the school has been videotaping/audio taping all of us parents and our children secretly in the lobby! So she heard all of us complaining about the recital fee, tore into the receptionist, said it was her fault that we were mad, that she hadn't "made them see things our way". She ripped down the signs about the recital fee, yelled at the receptionist for putting them up - even though the receptionist had a note from them saying to put them up ASAP.

#2 - the owner says NONE OF US will get our recital costumes unless we pay the $65 recital fee. So they are holding the costumes hostage, even though people have already paid for them.

#3 - the owner says there will be no dance pictures because she's sick of us "bitchy" parents complaining and not wanting to give her more money!

#4 - the owner says she will allow NO parents helping out backstage at the recital, she will bring in people from her other studio - complete strangers to our children, and our children (who are not allowed to wear underwear under their costumes by the way) will have to get dressed and undressed with complete strangers watching them. Again, she said she will not allow "any bitchy parents backstage anywhere near the children" (uh, who's kid is this anyway???)

#5 - apparently the receptionist said at the dance competition they had the instructors were ridiculing the children and made several of them cry.

Needless to say parents are furious and are pulling their kids out left and right, including me! We are going to band together as a group and plan something for the kids this summer at a park or somewhere so they can have a party, we can take our own pictures and they can do some of their routines for us. Also, the receptionist is going to call another dance studio in town and see if the owner will meet with us as a group to see if we can all sign up over there for next year - provided we find out all the fees ahead of time.

Oh and I guess the receptionist also said the owner demanded to know the names of any parent complaining because she is going to call us up and make us see things her way. I say go for it, lady!

I'm just so irritated and I cannot believe they've been video taping us without our knowledge, and especially our kids, which, I do believe is against the law!

So that's it for gymnastics for us this year. I know Maddie will be very disappointed not to do the recital, but I don't want anything further to do with these people. They are completely unprofessional!

Beth

I am at a loss for words, Beth. I have never heard of such unprofessional behavior in my life!!! I am so glad you and other parents are not standing for this owner's stuff. I think a private recital and party sounds like a lot more fun!!! KUP on this!

I would almost go to the newspaper with this one! Unreal. I don't blame you one bit.

I know you guys will put together something really nice for the kids. Perhaps you can have the newspaper cover that instead!
